APD charges suspected driver in death of TSD teacher<\/strong><\/p>\n

AUSTIN — The Austin Police Department is asking for the public\u2019s help
\nin finding Roman Jesus Turullos-Gonzalez.<\/p>\n

Turullos-Gonzalez, 20, is charged with failure to stop and render aid
\nin the death of Mark Gobble, a 37-year-old husband, father, and teacher
\nat Texas School for the Deaf.<\/p>\n

Gobble was out jogging around 6:30 a.m. Sunday off Slaughter Lane at
\nVinemont Lane when police say he was struck by a silver Toyota Tacoma.
\nAustin police say Gobble would have turned 38 Monday, but he died one
\nday before his birthday.<\/p>\n

The father of two is deaf and didn’t hear the truck coming.<\/p>\n

Funeral services for Gobble have been set for Thursday at 1 p.m. at
\nMercury Hall.<\/p>\n

Police say the driver did not stop to help. A neighbor who lives on the
\nother side of the concrete wall where the truck crashed says he heard
\nthe impact and stepped outside.<\/p>\n

The neighbor, Richard, says he saw the driver pause, look around, then
\ntake off.<\/p>\n

The driver didn’t get far, though. Police found his crashed truck
\nabandoned a couple of blocks away.<\/p>\n

Bond has been set for Turullos-Gonzalez at $30,000.<\/p>\n

If you see him, contact 911 immediately. Anyone with information
\nregarding this incident is asked to call APD vehicular homicide unit
\ndetectives at (512) 974-6981.<\/p>\n
