Deaf robber strikes twice at north side apartments<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Houston man whose victims said he spoke \u201clike a deaf person\u201d is
\naccused of robbing two women at knife point Tuesday morning in separate
\nincidents.<\/p>\n

Rashad Mayo, 28, has been charged with aggravated robbery in the two
\ncrimes that occurred between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday outside north
\nside apartments.<\/p>\n

The two apartments are less than a mile apart, one in the 13100 block
\nof Stonefield Drive and the other in the 200 block of Dominion Park
\nDrive.<\/p>\n

Both women told investigators a man approached them from behind as they
\ngot out of their cars to enter their apartments, according to court
\nrecords.<\/p>\n

In the Stonefield Drive case, the man held a knife against the woman\u2019s
\nneck and then fled with her purse, records state.<\/p>\n

The Dominion Drive resident told police the man pointed a knife at her
\nand waved it from side to side before making off with her luggage.<\/p>\n

Both women described the robber as tall and skinny, in his late 20s and
\nwith a distinct speech impediment like that of a deaf person.<\/p>\n

An investigator searched a Harris County database of crime reports,
\nentering the term \u201cdeaf\u201d and located Mayo as a witness in a report of
\ncriminal mischief earlier this year, records state.<\/p>\n

Using a booking photo from a previous arrest, the investigator showed a
\nphoto spread to the two women, who said Mayo was the man who robbed
\nthem.<\/p>\n
