Job Summary: Facilitates communication between hearing and deaf or hard
\nof hearing individuals in classrooms and meetings using American Sign
\nLanguage or the mode of communication preferred by the student.<\/p>\n

Minimum Requirements<\/p>\n

-Associate’s degree or 60 college hours from a regionally accredited
\ncollege or university
\n-Two (2) years experience
\n-Experience with computerized systems
\n-Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation
\nsoftware
\n-Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
\n-State Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) or National Registry
\nof Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Certification<\/p>\n

Preferred Qualifications: Willinginess to perform other duties in the
\nDisability Support Services Offices.<\/p>\n

Essential Duties and Responsibilities<\/p>\n

-Provides sign-language interpreter services
\n-Creates interpreter schedules to cover all students classes requiring
\ntheir services including part-time staff and contractors
\n-Interprets\/transliterates information using American Sign Language or
\nthe mode of communication preferred by the student
\n-Assists with scheduling interpreters
\n-Receives request for accommodations and documentation, determines
\nservices needed, and coordinates services for Deaf\/Hard of Hearing and
\nBlind\/Low Vision students
\n-Ensures appropriate intake, advising, retention, and follow-up
\nservices for Deaf\/Hard of hearing Interviews, hires, and evaluates
\ninterpreters and note takers
\n-Ensures policies\/procedures in place are compliant with Section 504
\nand ADA
\n-Acts as a liaison between students, faculty, staff, and community
\nresources
\n-Coordinates Disability Support Services sponsored workshops
\n-Orders and converts books on CD for blind students
\n-Presents workshops on various topics regarding disabilities and the
\nfunction of the DSS office
\n-Uses interpersonal skills, thinks, reasons, and makes sound judgments
\nto decide how duties and responsibilities are completed
\n-Completes all required training and professional development sessions
\nsponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC) Institute
\n-Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence,
\nstudent success, innovation and creativity and service to the College
\n-Performs other duties as assigned<\/p>\n
