Crews will be signing books, taking\u00a0questions from the audience, and reading from her memoir as part of the\u00a0library\u2019s Summer Reading Series. Crews will also appear at the\u00a0Northeast Mall Barnes and Noble in Hurst, Texas, on Sunday, July 1 st\u00a0at 3PM.<\/p>\n<p>Burn Down the Ground is Crews\u2019 powerful, affecting, and unflinching\u00a0memoir about her unconventional childhood living with deaf parents in a\u00a0tin shed in rural Texas (Crews is not deaf), and her attempts to\u00a0reconcile that harrowing childhood to her present life\u2014one in which her\u00a0father is serving a twenty-year sentence in a maximum-security prison\u00a0for attempted murder.<\/p>\n<p>A Texas native, Crews now runs her own PR and production company in New\u00a0York City. A renowned storyteller, she has performed at SXSW (South by\u00a0Southwest), The Moth, UCB Theatre, and Gotham Comedy Club, and has\u00a0given keynote addresses at, University of Texas &#8211; San Antonio, Ohioana\u00a0Book Festival, and DeafHope, a nonprofit dedicated to ending domestic\u00a0and sexual violence against deaf women and children.<\/p>\n<p>Crews\u2019s memoir has received praise from esteemed publications such as\u00a0Publishers Weekly, Booklist, Kirkus Reviews, ELLE magazine, and Library\u00a0Journal.
