Obituary: Judy Ann Barnes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Judy Ann Barnes was born in Nacogdoches on Feb. 15, 1950, and passed
\naway in The Hospice of East Texas on Sunday, July 22, 2012. She was
\npreceded in death by her father; brother, Travis W. Barnes. She is
\nsurvived by her mother, Doris Birdwell Barnes, Tyler; her aunt, Louise
\nBarnes, Pasadena; and numerous cousins.<\/p>\n

Judy was a graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo., and
\nreceived her doctorate from East Texas State University in Commerce
\n(presently Texas A&M University at Commerce). She taught at Cushing
\nGrammar School and Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches before joining the
\nfaculty of Tyler Junior College, where she taught for 20 years. After
\nteaching reading for several years, she began the Interpreter Training
\nProgram for sign language interpreters, where she was the department
\nhead until her retirement in May, 2008. She was also an integral part
\nof the Deaf Ministry at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler.<\/p>\n

Judy was very devoted and committed to the deaf community. She had been
\na beloved teacher, mentor and friend to all who knew her. She was an
\nartist, and also composed the music and words to numerous songs that
\nexpressed her faith in Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

Family will serve as pallbearers.<\/p>\n

Services will be held at Dickie Allen Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. on
\nWednesday, July 25, in Cushing with the Rev. Tim Roberts of Green Acres
\nBaptist Church, Tyler, officiating. Burial services will follow in
\nMcKnight Cemetery, Cushing. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 25,
\nfrom 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.<\/p>\n

Memorials may be made to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111
\nUniversity Blvd., Tyler, 75701; or The Dr. Judy Barnes Honorary
\nScholarship for the Sign Language Interpreter Training Program, Tyler
\nJunior College, 1400 E. Fifth St., Tyler, 75701.<\/p>\n
