Our annual conventions give self-advocates and our<br \/>\nmembership a chance to gather together to learn, network, prepare for<br \/>\nthe upcoming legislative session, and have fun! Click here for the<br \/>\ntentative convention agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Convention Hotel Information: To book your hotel at the conference rate<br \/>\nof $99.00 a night at the Renaissance Casa De Palmas<br \/>\nKick Off Friday with Professionals and Consumers<\/p>\n<p>The convention will kick off on Friday with the focus aimed toward<br \/>\nprofessionals in the healthcare industry such as Medicaid service<br \/>\ncoordinators, therapists, rehabilitation service providers, etc.<br \/>\nSeveral training opportunities will be offered throughout the day.<br \/>\nLearn &#8220;Effective Interactions with People with Disabilities&#8221; with tips<br \/>\non communication, using appropriate and correct language, respecting<br \/>\nspace, wheelchairs, service animals, and other unique issues. Check out<br \/>\n&#8220;Consumer Directed Services (CDS)&#8221;, which will teach you the ins and<br \/>\nouts of CDS and other community services and their importance in<br \/>\nsustaining independence for Texans with disabilities. Plus more to<br \/>\ncome! CEU&#8217;s offered! Of course, you do not have to be employed in the<br \/>\nbiz to participate, as all are welcome!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deaf Culture workshop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bridging the gaps between Deaf and hearing cultures is no small feat:<br \/>\nbut CTD, in partnership with VAIL and Down by the Border, is taking one<br \/>\nsmall step in the direction at our annual convention this fall.<\/p>\n<p>For Professional Focus Friday, CTD presents Deaf Culture and<br \/>\nInteractions, a workshop for professionals in almost any field. Dr.<br \/>\nPatti Singleton, Counselor and Professor at Austin Community College,<br \/>\nand Jennifer Powell, Deaf Services Specialist at VAIL will discuss how<br \/>\nto serve and communicate with deaf customers, members, patients, etc.<br \/>\nin effective, respectful ways. Is your business accessible to deaf<br \/>\npartons? Find out with us on Friday!<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Dr. Singleton and Ms. Powell will be back to run a<br \/>\nworkshop on Advocacy for Person with Deafness. Learn about strategies<br \/>\nfor effective interactions between deaf constituents and their hearing<br \/>\nrepresentatives and what the Help Americans Vote Act (HAVA) has to say<br \/>\nabout the rights and responsibilities of deaf voters.
