As in previous<br \/>\nyears, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and<br \/>\nbackpacks priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save<br \/>\nshoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.<\/p>\n<p>Subject to the criteria explained below, all sales of qualifying items<br \/>\nmade during the holiday period qualify for the exemption, including<br \/>\nitems sold over the Internet, television or by mail.
