PROGRAM COORDINATOR<\/p>\n

The GBYS Program Coordinator is required to be a parent or guardian of\u00a0a child who is deaf or hard of hearing in order to embody the Hands &\u00a0Voices value of parent leadership. Specifically, this position will be\u00a0responsible for the oversight of the Texas Guide By Your Side program,\u00a0the parent-to-parent support activities provided by parent guides and\u00a0support activities provided by Deaf and Hard of Hearing guides.\u00a0Additionally, this position will be responsible for collaborating with\u00a0appropriate agencies and organizations, networking amongst parents and\u00a0various parent groups, and developing and implementing plans for the
\nongoing support needs of families of children who are deaf or hard of\u00a0hearing in Texas. Guide By Your Side is a program based on the Hands &\u00a0Voices philosophy of providing unbiased support to families and the\u00a0Coordinator will collaborate with the Texas chapter of Hands & Voices\u00a0to ensure a strong program partnership.<\/p>\n

Job Location: It is preferred that applicants reside in the greater\u00a0Austin area and maintain regular office hours at 1102 South Congress,\u00a0Austin, TX 78704.
\nApplicants outside the Austin area may be considered for remote work,\u00a0based on qualifications, and would be required to travel to the Austin\u00a0office at least once a month.<\/p>\n

Required Hours: 20-25\/week Start Date: Immediate<\/p>\n

Occasional travel is required (15-20%)<\/p>\n

Pay Rate: Commiserate with experience, ranging from $30-35\/hr.<\/p>\n

GOALS AND ACTIVITIES<\/p>\n

MANAGEMENT:<\/p>\n

* Oversee, manage and supervise the ongoing services and future growth\u00a0of the Guide By Your Side (GBYS) Program.
\n* Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training and ongoing supervision of\u00a0Parent and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Guides.
\n* Promote the Guide By Your Side Program throughout the state.
\n* Oversee special projects associated with Guide By Your Side such as,\u00a0developing and updating resource directories, parent
\nguidebooks\/handbooks, and training materials.
\n* Build relationships and representation with parents of various\u00a0cultures, which represent the state\u2019s demographics.
\n* Assist with the fiscal management of the GBYS Program, including but\u00a0not limited to payment of the program guides, budgeting and contract\u00a0management.
\n* Oversee and maintain principles and practice confidentiality law, as\u00a0it pertains to referrals and reporting.<\/p>\n

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT, PROGRAM ASSESSMENT AND REPRESENTATION:<\/p>\n

* Conduct ongoing formal or informal needs assessments regarding the\u00a0educational and support needs of families of children who are deaf or\u00a0hard of hearing at a local, regional, and statewide level.
\n* Investigate and develop potential collaborations for the provision of\u00a0local, regional and statewide parent education and support programs.
\n* Collect or develop and disseminate resources (print, media, internet,\u00a0research materials) and training notices that are relevant to parents\u00a0of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
\n* Identify potential partners, revenue sources, vendors and exhibitors,\u00a0interpreters, speakers, childcare and entertainment associated with the\u00a0planning of the parent activities.
\n* Act as a Liaison and\/or provide advisory and leadership services to\u00a0state agencies and parent and professional organizations.
\n* Provide parent representation on behalf of the GBYS Program
\n* Partner with the Texas Hands & Voices chapter to facilitate the\u00a0development of a statewide network of parents with children who are\u00a0deaf or hard of hearing
\n* Required attendance at quarterly Texas Hands & Voices board meetings\u00a0(travel may be necessary) and monthly reports provided or presented to\u00a0the TXHV board.<\/p>\n

PREFERRED SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
\n1. Knowledge and understanding of the impact of hearing loss on the\u00a0family and the child. Support for the philosophy of unbiased support to\u00a0families.
\n2. Knowledge of the educational service delivery systems and related\u00a0resources available locally, regionally, statewide and nationally that\u00a0assist\/serve children (birth to 3, school age and young adult) who are\u00a0deaf or hard of hearing and their families.
\n3. Knowledge of communication options, deaf culture, technology, and\u00a0educational philosophies prevalent in the field of deafness.
\n4. Knowledge of techniques used to plan and\/or implement trainings,\u00a0presentations and\u00a0conferences for families and educational staff.
\n5. Experience supervising staff, managing projects and developing\u00a0systems to meet the ongoing needs of the program.
\n6. Strong project management skills
\n7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
\n8. Intermediate skills with computer programs such as Word, Excel, and\u00a0PowerPoint and basic database skills.<\/p>\n
