Celebrating \u201cDeaf\u201d Smith – and his 225th Birthday!<\/p>\n

On October 25, 2012, Erastus \u201cDeaf\u201d Smith will step out of Texas
\nhistory and into the DAC Teen Leadership Summit for Deaf & Hard of
\nHearing Boys! This summit we pay special tribute to THE LEGACY OF
\n\u201cDEAF\u201d SMITH, presented and performed by distinguished author,
\neducator, leader, and Hall of Fame athlete, Steven C. Baldwin, Ph.D. –
\na Texas treasure, himself.<\/p>\n

Dr. Baldwin will take the boys on a journey through Texas history at
\nthe time of the Alamo, portraying the man who lost his hearing at age
\n11, yet played a vital role in the struggle for Texas independence \u2013
\nthe legendary scout, spy, soldier and hero, Erastus \u201cDeaf\u201d Smith.<\/p>\n

Also featured will be the \u201cDeaf\u201d Smith displays recently exhibited in
\nthe Texas Capitol. Rest assured\u2026 this will be one unforgettable summit!<\/p>\n

Dr. Seven C. Baldwin (bio): Author, educator, leader and Hall of Fame
\nathlete, as well as \u201cDeaf\u201d Smith enthusiast, Dr. Steven C. Baldwin,
\nPh.D., has been a prolific writer for more than 30 years. His works
\ninclude, Pictures in the Air: The Story of the National Theatre of the
\nDeaf; The Deaf Texan Newsletter, where he was writer, editor and
\nphotographer from 2006 to 2011; and The Legacy of Deaf Smith: Famed
\nSoldier, Spy and Scout of the Texas Revolution, to name a few. Also, an
\naccomplished playwright, Dr. Baldwin has had 20 of his plays produced.
\nIn 1992, he authored a mini-documentary film that won the Barbara
\nJordan award; and later researched, wrote and co-produced Journey
\nThrough Deaf Texas, a 54 minute documentary about the Texas Association
\nof the Deaf and its past leaders. Dr. Baldwin has a B.A. in American
\nHistory from Gallaudet University, a M.A. in Special Education from
\nCalifornia State University, Northridge, and a Ph.D. in Theatre
