APA\/GCPD Accessibility Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since 2010, the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities
\n(GCPD) has worked with the Accessibility Professionals Association
\n(APA), formerly known as the Texas Registered Accessibility Specialists
\nAssociation (TRASA), to recognize businesses and organizations that go
\nsignificantly above and beyond the legal requirements of both physical
\nand service accessibility for people with disabilities. Nominations can
\nbe submitted by accessibility specialists, building owners or managers,
\nor by appreciative public citizens. Site visits are made by APA
\nprofessionals to inspect physical accessibility and by professionals
\nfamiliar with disability issues to inspect for service accessibility
\n(friendliness of staff, easily accessible accommodations, innovations
\nsuch as Braille menus, etc).<\/p>\n

\nPeople with Disabilities Accessibility Awards — Deadline Approaching
\n(September 28, 2012)<\/p>\n

The deadline for nominations for the APA\/GCPD Accessibility Awards is
\ncoming up soon \u2013 September 28. An important way to raise awareness of
\ndisability issues is to shine a spotlight on business owners and site
\nmanagers for going Above and Beyond the requirements of the law in
\nmaking their place accessible, both in terms of physical accessibility
\nAND service accessibility. You can find the Submission Guidelines and
\nNomination Form on our APA\/GCPD web page and on the Accessibility
\nProfessionals Association website.<\/p>\n

Also available on our website, or by request from our office, is the
\nAbove and Beyond: Service Accessibility document, featuring suggestions
\nfor creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for ALL people. You
\ncan download the Word or PDF version, or contact our office for Large
\nPrint or other accessible versions.<\/p>\n
