Texas State Senate District 10 Outreach<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hi Friends,<\/p>\n

This Summer I experienced a unique opportunity as an outreach
\ncoordinator focusing on the disabilities community for Texas State
\nSenator Wendy Davis’ office. I spoke with disabled veterans, persons
\nwho are deaf, hard of hearing and deaf blind, persons with visual
\nimpairment, parents of children with autism, other parents, teachers,
\nother educators and professionals, and more. Some issues that each
\ndisability faces are unique to that disability, but many are also
\nshared across the disability community.<\/p>\n

I ask that you read the announcement below and pass it on to anyone you
\nknow with a disability or who has access to persons with disabilities,
\nincluding grandparents, service providers, sign language interpreters.
\nIf you have a family member or friend and know of their situation,
\nplease complete the survey with what you know. I know it’s a survey,
\nand it’s only 10 questions, but the responses could go a long way in
\nhelping persons with disabilities. I hope all is well and appreciate

Hi, I’m Tracey Michol, Outreach Coordinator for persons with
\ndisabilities and their families for State Senator Wendy Davis. Senator
\nDavis, who represents my Senate District 10, initiated an outreach
\nproject in June to (1) learn more about the quality of life barriers
\nexperienced by persons with disabilities and their families, including
\nthe deaf and hard of hearing community and veterans with disabilities,
\nand (2) to determine potential legislation that could address those
\nbarriers. So far, conversations I have had with consumers and providers
\nidentify access to communication and transportation as priority
\nconcerns. Both are necessary for access to employment, healthcare, and
\neducation, along with issues important to all Texans.<\/p>\n

This is an important outreach project. It is important for Senator
\nDavis to know what you need and what you would like the 2013
\nLegislature to accomplish to improve your quality of life in Texas.

\nshort survey. You don’t have to be a resident of Senate District 10 in
\norder to complete it. Information can be shared with your elected
\nrepresentatives if you include your zip code.<\/p>\n

Many of us have been advocating and fighting for a quality life and for
\nfairness for a long time. Some of us are not visible to others, and to
\nmany of those who are elected to serve us. I know how frustrating it
\ncan be, which is why I’m asking you to take the time to complete this
\nsurvey, as well as a survey for the Governor’s Committee on People with
\nDisabilities (GCPWD). If you have not had a chance to fill out the
\nGCPWD survey, a link is provided at the end the survey for Senator
\nDavis for your convenience. Both are important for building awareness
\nand support among our state legislators.<\/p>\n
