The American Sign Language Interpreting Program in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Houston seeks applicants for a nine-month, non-tenure track, full-time instructor position beginning September, 2013.<\/p>\n

The Bachelor’s program in American Sign Language Interpreting (ASLI) (http:\/\/www.uh.edu\/class\/comd\/asli\/ (http:\/\/www.uh.edu\/class\/comd\/asli<\/a>\/) ) began in fall, 2009 and currently has approximately 30 students. It is the first of its kind in the state of Texas.<\/p>\n

We are seeking a creative, innovative applicant with a passion for teaching the theoretical and practical aspects of American Sign Language.<\/p>\n

Responsibilities include; teaching ASL and related classes; curriculum development and evaluation; assisting with the development of community outreach programs and workshops, and working closely with the ASLI Program Coordinator and other ASL faculty.<\/p>\n

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in ASL Linguistics, Interpreting, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, or related field from an accredited institution, native\/near-native proficiency in ASL and three years teaching.<\/p>\n
