The dense nature of legal texts often requires more cultural and linguistic expansion than interpreters initially realize. Further complicating this process is the ever-changing nature of the law.<\/p>\n
In this session participants will learn various strategies for extracting embedded information and making it explicit to deaf suspects all while considering the implications of the recent Supreme Court decision regarding Miranda. The focus of this session is bridging the gap between theory and application in legal training. Attendees will be led through an in-depth analysis of commonly encountered legal text. This analysis, paired with practical tips on navigating the texts, will help them develop their own interpretations that can be used in a variety of legal situations. A heavy emphasis will be placed on conceptually accurate, culturally rich interpretation of phrases and concepts commonly encountered in the legal realm.
