Response to the first announcement has been a good one, and we want to make sure that all disabilities and special needs are represented. To update you on a few changes:

1. The Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities’ survey is closed September 30, 2012.
2. The Deadline for State Senator Wendy Davis’ survey is November 13, 2012.

The is still time for those of you who request hard copies of the survey to complete them and return them to:

Charles Boswell, District Director
2421 W. 7th Street, BLDG A, Suite 350
Fort Worth, Texas 76107

Some of you have asked me if you could post the announcement and link to the online survey on Survey Monkey on your Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks. The answer is, “Yes, you can!” The more Texans with disabilities and their families see this and participate, the better it is for all of us. Thank you for your support in spreading the word. I also want to thank everyone who spent time talking with me, answering my questions and sharing your thoughts, concerns and suggestions. For some of you, communicating through Video Relay Service (VRS) was a first-time experience. VRS is great technology and was instrumental in this outreach project initiated by State Senator Wendy Davis’ office.

Please complete your survey by November 13, 2012. The original message below includes the link to the online survey on Survey Monkey. The survey is only 10 questions, but your responses can go a long way to helping persons with disabilities.

Also, please see the following original message in sign language with voiceover and closed caption, on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sdIT9Y3xj4

Hi, I’m Tracey Michol, Outreach Coordinator for persons with disabilities and their families for State Senator Wendy Davis. Senator Davis, who represents my Senate District 10, initiated an outreach project in June to (1) learn more about the quality of life barriers experienced by persons with disabilities and their families, including the deaf and hard of hearing community and veterans with disabilities, and (2) to determine potential legislation that could address those barriers. So far, conversations I have had with consumers and providers identify access to communication and transportation as priority concerns. Both are necessary for access to employment, healthcare, and education, along with issues important to all Texans.

This is an important outreach project. It is important for Senator Davis to know what you need and what you would like the 2013 Legislature to accomplish to improve your quality of life in Texas. Please visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FWN83T2 to complete a short survey. You don’t have to be a resident of Senate District 10 in order to complete it. Information can be shared with your elected representatives if you include your zip code.

Many of us have been advocating and fighting for a quality life and for fairness for a long time. Some of us are not visible to others, and to many of those who are elected to serve us. I know how frustrating it can be, which is why I’m asking you to take the time to complete this survey, as well as a survey for the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPWD). If you have not had a chance to fill out the GCPWD survey, a link is provided at the end the survey for Senator Davis for your convenience. Both are important for building awareness and support among our state legislators.

If you need assistance completing the survey for Senator Davis or need it in Braille or large print, please contact me at 817-200-7800 or Tracey.Michol@senate.state.tx.us. I will be happy to help you. Let’s do this!

Thank you for your support and participation.

Tracey Michol
Outreach Coordinator
Senator Wendy R Davis
Texas Senate – District 10

Texas Senate District 10 and Texas Hi Friends, I’m writing to let you know that there is still time to complete the survey as part of the outreach project for persons with disabilities and their families.
