{"id":21037,"date":"2012-12-10T03:48:54","date_gmt":"2012-12-10T08:48:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/?p=21037"},"modified":"2012-12-10T04:44:03","modified_gmt":"2012-12-10T09:44:03","slug":"four-wireless-carriers-agree-to-accelerate-text-to-911","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2012\/12\/10\/four-wireless-carriers-agree-to-accelerate-text-to-911\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Wireless Carriers Agree to Accelerate Text to 911"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Four Wireless Carriers Agree to Accelerate Text to 911<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On December 6, 2012, the FCC announced that the four major wireless carriers \u2013 AT&amp;T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile \u2013 have agreed to accelerate the availability of text-to-911, with major deployments expected in 2013 and a commitment to nationwide availability by May 15, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Text-to-911 will provide consumers, including millions of consumers with hearing and speech disabilities, access to emergency services by enabling them to send a text message to 911. This will also provide consumers with enhanced access to emergency communications in situations where a voice call could endanger the caller, or a person with disabilities is unable to make a voice call.
