TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF FUNDRAISER SUPPORTS 2013 ACADEMIC BOWL TEAM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Austin, Texas \u2013 December 14, 2012 The Texas School for the Deaf\u2019s (TSD) 2013 Academic Bowl Team holds a Soup Dinner and Silent Auction fundraiser today, starting at 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., in the school\u2019s cafeteria at 1102 South Congress Avenue.<\/p>\n

Enjoy all-you-can-eat soup, bread, crackers and dessert \u2013 with soup choices including vegetarian and gluten free options \u2013 along with a silent auction with items from Half-Price Books, Teacher Heaven, Round Rock Express, Ashley Furniture, Costco, and delicious local eats like, Hey Cupcake, Casa Garcia, Doc\u2019s, Hoover\u2019s and much, much more.<\/p>\n

Popular among high schools and colleges throughout the country, the Academic Bowl is an annual series of quiz tournaments where student teams compete in local, regional, and national events. The top three teams from each of five regions across the nation will meet in March for the 17th anniversary of the national competition, at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n

Participating since 2005 and placing regionally, TSD placed third in regionals in 2007, fourth place in 2008 and 2009, and finished among the top 16 teams out of 80 teams nationally the last two years, in 2011 and 2012.<\/p>\n

The TSD team\u2019s funds raised tonight will help pay for the team\u2019s uniforms and transportation as they prepare for the Southwest\/At-Large Regional Competition, January 24-27, in Utah.<\/p>\n

The TSD team is anxious to go all the way to nationals this year, but first must face brand new competitors in a newly formed region.<\/p>\n

TSD\u2019s team coach and high school science teacher, Michelle Halvorsen thinks TSD can do it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a fabulous team this year who is ready to go to nationals, says Halvorsen. We believe we they have an excellent shot at placing in the top three, and earning a spot to compete in the national tournament. The team has worked really hard. So I hope you\u2019ll come out tonight to show your support for our students\u2019 academic pursuits and help us make it all the way! \u201d<\/p>\n
