To this end, the Meadows Museum has developed an ambitious multi-phase plan to make its spaces and programs accessible and relevant to all visitors.

The Meadows Museum’s education department is piloting tools and resources, such as tactile graphic representations, tactile reproductions, braille and large print text, and tactile maps of the museum space. In addition, they are developing approaches that incorporate verbal description of the art and invite visitors, without the sense of sight, to experience works of art. These creative tools will be available for all docent-led tours at the Meadows Museum after January, 2013.

The attached Access to the Arts flyer invites the Dallas/Ft.Worth Metroplex community to be part of the Meadows Museum’s art appreciation series. The artist, John Bramblitt, who is blind, will offer multiple perspectives of works from the permanent collection at the Meadows Museum. An Evening Gallery Series with Guest Artist John Bramblitt will be held January 31, March 21, and May 16, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Reservations are necessary. (To request an ASL tactile interpreter, please allow three-four weeks notice).

For more information about the program and to register, please contact Dr. Carmen Smith, director of education at the Meadows Museum, at mcarmens@smu.edu.

Sincerely,
Mary Ann
Mary Ann Siller, M.Ed.
National Consultant in Blindness and Low Vision and
Community Business Partnership Network Leader
214-448-6068

Download Flyer (PDF)
http://deafnetwork.com/wordpress/download/597/

Meadows Museum Announces New Access to the Arts Programming (Deaf-Blind) – DFW The Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University is committed to offering meaningful experiences with their world class collection of Spanish art to diverse audiences.
