Internationally acclaimed films about persons with disabilities will be shown at a variety of different locations across the City. Most events are free of charge but do require advance registration\/ticket purchase in order to reserve seats at the events\/showings.<\/p>\n<p>All films are captioned or sub titled and other reasonable accommodations can be arranged through Jewish Family Services at http:\/\/www.Houston.ReelAbilities.org or by calling 713-667-9336 by January 30, 2013. Therefore, ASL interpreters, CART and assistive listening devices can also be requested if needed for effective communication and you call by the deadline to request accommodations.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to volunteer to assist with the Film Festival, simply click on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.disabilitiesfilmfestival.org\/volunteers.php\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.disabilitiesfilmfestival.org\/volunteers.php<\/a>. I am thrilled that the Mayor\u2019s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) is working closely with host city organizer Jewish Family Service and its Alexander Institute for Inclusion. This city-wide film and arts festival is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of individuals with various disabilities. With TIRR Memorial Hermann as its Lead Sponsor, ReelAbilities\u2019 goal is to foster a community that includes all individuals by eliminating the stigma associated with disabilities. Please see the attached brochure for more information about the film festival and the individual screenings.<\/p>\n<p>There will be approximately 15 screenings during the week at locations around the city. Volunteers are needed at each screening to make this event a success. Volunteers are also needed on Sunday, January 27 to help assemble special giveaway items (key chains and flash drives) for film attendees. Assembly of giveaway items will occur at 4131 S. Braeswood, Houston, Texas from 10:00 a.m. to noon or noon to 2:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>As volunteers for this event, we are looking for individuals like you to help out throughout the festival. Critical tasks include working at the films and screenings to welcome guests and speakers, distribute promotional materials and hand out giveaways.
