Announcing the launch of a national Jewish Deaf organization, Jewish
\nDeaf Congress website, http:\/\/www.JewishDeafCongress.org
\n; everything you’ve wanted to know about Jewish Deaf Congress, Inc.
\nwhich was formerly known as National Congress of Jewish Deaf (NCJD)
\nby many old timers. The new site is a work in progress with a goal to
\ngive an insight of the JDCs story, JDC Quarterly archives, articles
\nsubmitted by various Jewish individuals, and updated information of
\nits upcoming retreats and national conference. <\/p>\n
JDCs president, Marla Berkowitz explains the motivation for the
\ncreation of the website: Preserving our passion for strong identity
\nas Jews who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals and our Jewish
\nDeaf history deserves visibility. Therefore, the best venue for
\neducating and staying abreast of our activities is the website.<\/p>\n
The Jewish Deaf Congress, Inc. today is a vibrant organization,
\nserving persons who are Jewish and Deaf or Hard of Hearing primarily
\nin North America. Our mission is to provide religious, cultural, and
\neducational experiences. Our people include those who became deaf
\nbefore acquiring language, those who became deaf later in life, and
\nthose who are hard of hearing. Parents join our organization, as do
\ngrandparents. Some with our deaf constituents represent a community
\nof interpreters or educators, and rabbis, or perhaps even children or
\nsiblings or just friends of deaf adults. <\/p>\n
JDC board is striving for innovative ways to create a “Jewish home”
\nwhere there are ample opportunities for Jewish learning, fostering
\nfriendships, and celebrating Judaism is valued. <\/p>\n
My hopes and dreams for JDC is to reach out and connect with as many
\nJewish deaf or hard of hearing people throughout the country and the
\nworld, says Deborah Mayer, JDCs Board at Large. Just as the wandering
\nJews have been for thousandths of years, Jewish Deaf and Hard of
\nHearing people may have found a place of their own. <\/p>\n
The highlight of the website is the announcement of JDCs upcoming
\nretreat in October called Mapping your Jewish Spiritual Journey.

We encourage everyone to join us! Education is the key. I want JDC to
\nprovide as many educational opportunities, especially through the use
\nof Vlogs on JDCs website. In this way, Deaf and Hard of Hearing

\nTreasurer. <\/p>\n
