How do we change other people’s perceptions of the deaf and hard of hearing community? How do we gain equality? How do we break through the glass ceiling and get promotions? How do we use technology to gain an edge in the workplace? How do we improve our organizations in today’s modern world? How do we achieve feats? There are so many “How’s” and to answer these questions, we need to share information and our experience and expertise.

To achieve our desired feats, we must defy the expectations that have been imposed on us by a society that does not always have the best view or understanding of deaf and hard of hearing people. We must learn to lead not only ourselves, but also lead society before they can view us with respect and equal standing.

This means gaining skills in professional development and fully understanding all the tools and legal rights available to us to achieve our employment feats.

This means acquiring effective communication skills and big picture thinking to achieve our personal and professional feats.

This means learning all about the existing educational system and becoming savvy with the placement process to save the schools that teach deaf and hard of hearing children to achieve our educational feats.

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) has relied on its staff, its Board, its volunteers, and its members to achieve many feats in recent years. For the first time in the history of the United States, the NAD convinced the Department of Transportation to grant waivers to deaf and hard of hearing truck drivers to obtain CDLs (Commercial Driver’s License). The NAD worked with other consumer organizations to pass the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (CVAA) which has transformed the Internet with fully captioned television programming. The NAD also broke through barriers on the Internet with its NAD v. Netflix lawsuit that opened up streaming video services and made them accessible with captioning for all deaf and hard of hearing people. The NAD worked with Pepsi to bring ASL to the Super Bowl. All of these feats were achieved and defied expectations.

The NAD wants YOU to defy expectations and achieve feats! Join us on October 3-5, 2013 in historic Omaha, Nebraska. The Conference will foster the enhanced development of leadership within state associations, entities, and corporations. As the nation’s premier civil rights organization of, by and for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the United States of America, NAD’s mission is to provide guidance and support to the deaf and hard of hearing community to take on society’s challenges and succeed in a more equal and accessible world.

Why come to the NLTC? Corporations and agencies can expect their employees to acquire a better understanding of efficiency, effectiveness, and execution of performance duties as well as honing networking skills. State associations and other nonprofits can expect their officers to become familiar and comfortable with board governance, website and social media tools, financial management, reporting mandates, legislative and political advocacy, and membership recruitment. All participants will also benefit from essential diversity training crucial to every entity.

Come and gain the knowledge, expertise, and network to enable full productivity and success within your state associations, entities, and corporations! Don’t miss out on an interactive and fact filled weekend! We look forward to having you participate in this thriving leadership training event in beautiful downtown Omaha.

In addition to an amazing selection of training sessions, we have three exciting evening events!

Thursday, October 3rd — welcome reception hosted by NAD President Chris Wagner and NeAD President Jonathan Scherling.

Friday, October 4th, Nebraska Association of the Deaf (NeAD), Nebraska Deaf Heritage Museum & Cultural Center (NDHMCC), and the Nebraska-Iowa Jr. NAD chapter will host the Nebraska Deaf Heritage Mixer & Tour.

Saturday, October 5th, NLTC Night Out at The Mattress Factory

REGULAR REGISTRATION FORM

GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE TRAINING REGISTRATION FORM

To learn more and get involved with NAD NLTC 2013 — click on the links on right-hand side.

SOURCE:

http://www.nad.org/2013nltc

NAD Leadership Training Conference: Defy Expectations; Achieve Feats!
