Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n

TITLE: Bilingual (ASL-English) Computer Literacy Instructor\/ Employment Specialist<\/p>\n

SUMMARY:<\/p>\n

Responsible for the Jesse H. Jones Computer and Technical Center. Teaches computer competency skills to adults who are deaf and hard of hearing to augment existing literacy skills. Provides full employment service case management to deaf\/hard of hearing clients by assisting with job placement and retention. Assists with the documentation requirements related to the Dept. of<\/span> Assistive & Rehabilitative Services (DARS).<\/p>\n

PROGRAM: Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS)<\/p>\n

SALARY RANGE: Grade IV<\/p>\n

JOB REQUIREMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Education\/Experience:<\/p>\n

* Bachelor’s degree or higher, in rehabilitation, business, marketing, or related human services; and\u00a0one year of documented experience providing employment services with assistance in computer\u00a0usage to individuals; or
\n* Associate’s degree in computer science, rehabilitation, business, marketing, or related human\u00a0services; and two years of documented experience in a professional or personal setting routinely\u00a0working with people with the deaf or hard of hearing; or
\n* Extensive experience in the operation of computers, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft\u00a0Office Suite and Internet Explorer.
\n* Prior teaching experience.<\/p>\n

Skills:<\/p>\n

Ability to teach reading, writing and math, using computer and other technology.
\nExperience in computer literacy instruction.
\nFluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and other sign systems.
\nIntimate knowledge of deafness and deaf culture.
\nDemonstrated advanced knowledge of current business application software.
\nAbility to plan and organize work in a time<\/span> efficient manner.
\nAbility to work as a team member.
\nAbility to represent agency<\/span> in a professional manner.
\nExcellent written and communication skills
\nExcellent interpersonal skills.<\/p>\n

JOB DUTIES:
\nMaintains statistics on all enrollments and program participation, including certifications and\u00a0levels achieved.
\nProvides instruction in computer software for those students interested in and showing aptitude\u00a0for word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
\nProvides assistance in basic reading, writing and math skills in computer lab<\/span>. Provide instruction\u00a0in other areas, such as social studies, and science.
\nMaintains records and complete reports on time.
\nDevelops individualized instructional plans to meet students’ academic needs. Review and\u00a0evaluate students\u2019 progress on an ongoing basis.
\nDevelops and implement culturally-appropriate assessment and evaluation of students.
\nMaintains student documentation consistent with funding and program guidelines.
\nDevelops or adapt materials appropriate to the academic level of the students.
\nPlans and implements a formalized computer literacy program with specific to track client\u00a0progress.
\nProvides comprehensive case management services to ensure that clients are properly prepared to\u00a0engage in a successful job search.
\nDevelops and implement an employment plan for each client and to that end, set realistic goals,\u00a0action steps, and time frames for their successful completion.
\nProvides for supportive services to enhance the clients\u2019 ability to get a job (haircuts, referral for\u00a0interviewing outfits, bus tokens for transportation to interviews, etc.).
\nConducts Job Readiness Skills Workshops in ASL.
\nSolicits job orders and match clients to appropriate job openings.
\nOther duties as assigned.<\/p>\n
