DEAF EDUCATION INTERPRETER AIDE QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
Valid Texas Paraprofessional Certificate or ability to obtain upon hire
\nHigh School Diploma or GED
\nInterpreter Certification issued by the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired (Level 0*, 1, 2, or 3) * Can be employed for maximum of 3 years at this level in the state
\nMust meet one of following:
\nAssociate\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Degree, OR
\n60 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher learning, OR
\nSuccessful completion of basic written exam
\nAbility to work well with children
\nKnowledge of general office equipment
\nProficient sign language skills
\nExperience working with children\/students or parents
\nGENERAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES <\/p>\n
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy
\nAssist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
\nWork with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
\nAssist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments
\nAssist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
\nKeep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
\nAssist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
\nAssist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment
\nInterpret for hearing impaired students
\nAssist students as needed with personal care (i.e. feeding, changing diapers, bathroom needs, etc.)
\nAssist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports
\nParticipate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed
\nProvide orientation assistance to substitute teachers
\nOTHER INFORMATION <\/p>\n
Beginning Date: As soon as possible
\nLength of Duty: 187 days annually
\nSalary: Salary will be in accordance with the approved salary schedule adopted by the
\nBoard of Trustees <\/p>\n
