GENERAL DESCRIPTION<\/p>\n

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Interpreting Services performs advanced (senior-level) interpreter work. Work involves interpreting or translating English into American Sign Language and American Sign Language into English or other applicable language. Duties may include but are not limited to interpreting during: meetings, interviews, counseling, emergencies, staff development, Governing Board meetings, conferences, field trips, student related activities, student mainstream classes, out of town assignments, as well as teaching sign language classes. The position requires flexible hours and the ability to travel to meet the needs of the students and staff including nights and\/or weekends as required. Must have reliable transportation and be able to respond and adapt to changing assignments in a prescribed time frame. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.<\/p>\n

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES<\/p>\n

\u2022 Interprets or translates English into American Sign Language and American Sign Language into English
\n\u2022 Interprets languages within classrooms or other educational environments for the agency or clients of the agency
\n\u2022 Performs specialized translation duties
\n\u2022 Performs technical program assistance work
\n\u2022 Travels to daily assignments in prescribed time frame
\n\u2022 Able to travel to assignments both in and out of state as requested
\n\u2022 Expresses ideas clearly and concisely through sign language, orally, and in writing
\n\u2022 Performs related work as assigned<\/p>\n

Established Work Hours: 8 AM – 5 PM

Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED<\/p>\n

\u2022 Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
\n\u2022 BEI Level III, IV, V, Advanced or Masters certification from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Board for Evaluation of Interpreters, or equivalent.
\n\u2022 Two years interpreting experience with deaf students and\/or adults in any of the following or related areas: platform, business, technical, classroom, sign-to-voice, medical, counseling
\n\u2022 Sign Language: At hire, the applicant must have sign language skills equivalent to a Signed Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) level of ADVANCED. When applying, the applicant must submit documentation that the applicant believes substantiates that the applicant has achieved the proficiency level required at hire.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Previous experience as an interpreter in an educational setting
\n\u2022 Courtroom interpreter certification
\n\u2022 BA degree from an accredited university or college
\nSalary: $3,655.65 – $5,577.26 per month (commensurate with experience & certification)<\/p>\n
