TSID Celebrates 50 Years – Addison<\/strong><\/p>\n

Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf (TSID), the nation’s first and oldest professional organization for interpreters for deaf\/severely hard of hearing, will celebrate 50 years at Addison’s InterContinental Hotel in a few days with a Student Conference on June 19th and 20th and their Annual Conference, June 20th through June 23rd. Over 700 are expected with many of the organization’s past presidents, some who are retired, being in attendance and being honored.<\/p>\n

Several special things are planned during the event such as a “museum” area where tables will display 50 years of interpreting and deaf community history, distribution of the book, TSID: 1963 – 2013, which details history of the organization, including a yearly listing of board members and special tidbits important to TSID, RID and the deaf and interpreting communities.<\/p>\n

Meeting rooms in the hotel are being renamed to honor many who are charter members of TSID and\/or have given of their time and talents to the organization.<\/p>\n

Also for the opening session on Thursday evening, is the viewing of TAD’s “Journey Through Deaf Texas” (open to the public for only a cost of $5.00, which includes the movie and movie munchies) and a Past President panel facilitated led by Lori Breslow, Director of the Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services as the program for the banquet on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n
