Houston, TX, June 07, 2013 \u2013(PR.com)\u2013 Spirit of Love, the Mike Glenn story was a slam dunk at the Texas Christian Film festival and winner of \u201cBest Inspirational\u201d film and will screen at Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church, while benefiting the Lillian Beard Deaf Center on Friday June 21st at 7pm. Located at 9920 Long Point Rd, Houston, TX 77055. It is free to attend and dvds can be purchased for $20 which benefits the center. Cash, check, credit cards will be accepted.<\/p>\n

Retired NBA player Mike \u201cStinger\u201d Glenn plays himself in this wonderful film inspired by his real life Basketball camps for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing. In a unique casting, deaf & hard of hearing, and hearing actors work together and deliver a film which is authentic, charming, competitive, funny, and challenging. Spirit<\/span> of Love is a diverse coming of age story. A group of misfit teens arrive<\/span> at the 33rd annual basketball camp, which is the first time girls will attend the camp. Some come with hoop dreams, while others are trying to survive tumultuous teenage angst<\/span>. Not only do they learn life lessons through the game of basketball, they soon learn what it means to soar like Eagles, Win or Lose. The film is rated PG and has been approved for family friendly viewing for all ages by the Dove Foundation.<\/p>\n

Filmmaker Darla Rae said, \u201cI believe our film has the ability to bridge the gap amongst many diverse groups and ethnicities. It\u2019s been a wonderful experience watching deaf & hearing audience members sitting side by side and being uplifted and inspired by our amazing teens and Mike Glenn all who are true unsung heroes. The project has been a blessing to me and will bless all who see it. It really is a family film for all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayor Kelly Kautz of Snellville Georgia said, \u201cSpirit of Love is a unique film because not only is it family friendly entertainment it contains an important message about how we are all different but really the same. This message is so important to communicate in<\/span> today\u2019s society. The film opens our awareness to the deaf community and to the selfless efforts of Mike Glenn and his staff. You leave the film feeling good about our community, but you also leave wondering what you yourself can do to better help and accept not just people in the deaf community but everyone as they are.<\/p>\n

\u201cRecently, I had the incredible opportunity to take a group of Deaf church members to a screening of ‘Spirit of Love.’ Meeting Mike Glenn and seeing the movie has inspired me to do what I can as a pastor to make this movie available to the Deaf community. I believe the Deaf community will totally embrace \u201cThe Spirit of Love\u201d because of the superb manner in which the movie is presented in American Sign Language, Open Caption, and spoken English. This is a great movie for everyone!\u201d said Pastor Arthur Craig of Woodhaven Baptist Deaf Church.<\/p>\n
