These tips can help you have a safe and fun holiday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0If you&#8217;re cooking for a large group, follow the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/wps\/wcm\/connect\/a424bdb3-e128-4135-afcc-4f5522a08122\/7_Steps_Community_Meals.pdf?MOD=AJPERES\" target=\"_blank\">USDA&#8217;s seven steps to success<\/a>\u00a0(PDF).<\/li>\n<li>Everyone loves a good hot dog, but barbecues can cause unsafe food preparation. To prevent this, be sure to keep your\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodsafety.gov\/blog\/grillingsafety.html\" target=\"_blank\">grilling safe<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>In the warmer weather, you might be doing more activities outside. If you&#8217;re\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/wps\/wcm\/connect\/82318e67-8c96-47ac-8615-747f4c403816\/Food_Safety_While_Hiking_Camping_Boating.pdf?MOD=AJPERES\" target=\"_blank\">hiking<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/wps\/wcm\/connect\/82318e67-8c96-47ac-8615-747f4c403816\/Food_Safety_While_Hiking_Camping_Boating.pdf?MOD=AJPERES\" target=\"_blank\">, camping, or boating<\/a>\u00a0(PDF), the USDA has guidelines for keeping food safe without limiting your summer outdoor fun!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.usa.gov\/post\/54098599880\/image-description-its-finally-summer-time-that\" target=\"_blank\">Find more summer food safety tips<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fireworks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fireworks should be used only with extreme caution.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.usa.gov\/post\/54109217133\/are-fireworks-legal-in-your-state\" target=\"_blank\">Make sure they are legal in your area before buying or using them<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid buying fireworks that are packaged in brown paper because this is often a sign that the fireworks were made for professional displays and that they could pose a danger to consumers.<\/li>\n<li>Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities. Parents don&#8217;t realize that young children suffer injuries from sparklers. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 2,000 degrees &#8211; hot enough to melt some metals.<\/li>\n<li>Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse.\u00a0 Back up to a safe distance immediately after lighting fireworks.<\/li>\n<li>Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully.<\/li>\n<li>Never point or throw fireworks at another person.<\/li>\n<li>Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap.<\/li>\n<li>Light fireworks one at a time, then move back quickly.<\/li>\n<li>Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers.<\/li>\n<li>After fireworks complete their burning, douse the spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose before discarding it to prevent a trash fire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cpsc.gov\/en\/Safety-Education\/Safety-Education-Centers\/Fireworks\/\" target=\"_blank\">Find more firework safety information<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>What is USA.gov?<\/strong><br \/>\nUSA.gov is an easy-to-search, free-access website designed to give you a centralized place to find information from U.S. local, state, and federal government agency websites.
