A MESSAGE FROM THE DAD PRESIDENT:

Hello Members and Friends of DAD; <\/p>\n
My goodness! October came and went right before my eyes! <\/p>\n
I want to share with you that I had an opportunity to take a short weekend trip to Wisconsin for my high school, WSD, 25th reunion. Half of us showed up which I thought was a pretty good number. <\/p>\n
It was a bit too early to see the leaves turning colors while I was there, so I missed the peak of a colorful autumn scenic view. <\/p>\n
The North Texas Deaf Poker (NTDP) held their second fall Poker Tourney which had a great number of attendees. I understand there were a few visitors from Oklahoma, Austin, and Houston who also came to enjoy the OU\/UT football game and shootout. <\/p>\n
During the last \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Ladies Nite Out\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, we showed a DVD about domestic violence. FYI, we plan to form two or three domestic violence sessions a year, during 2008, with professional counselors present. <\/p>\n
Afterwards we had a nice 50th birthday celebration for Donna Lide, who is also vice-president of DAD. <\/p>\n
During the Saturday morning, October 20th, \u00e2\u20ac\u01531-on-1 Job Resume\u00e2\u20ac\u009d workshop, led by both Tashee Gates and Teresa Dell, eight Deaf\/hard of hearing people received assistance in completing or revising their personal resumes. We certainly hope that those individuals have achieved their goal in getting a job. <\/p>\n
And do please mark Nov. 17th for the fourth and final 2007 Job Workshop with Mr. Bobby Benefield, DARS counselor in Ft. Worth. <\/p>\n
And, yes, due to the popularity of DAD offering job-related workshops we plan to continue with the job-related workshops in 2008. <\/p>\n
Last weekend we had our DAD election and almost all of the officers and board members were reelected and will continue another year! Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s welcome Bob Lane & Susan Lane as two new additions to our 2008 board. <\/p>\n
Afterwards almost everyone stayed after the election for a Texas-sized spud baked and\/or sweet potato. <\/p>\n
Later that evening there were a few people dressed up for the Halloween Party. We had a contest for best Halloween costumes as well as best decorated and tasted desserts. Joan Cody won both best decoration and taste for her Texas-shaped cake! The winners of the costumes were 1st place went to Cindi Nagy (short person with big, fat lips), 2nd place to Ricky Foster (Joker) and 3rd to Callie Foster (female devil). \nNov 3 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c NTDP, @4:00pm. Chili will be sold by Dallas Black Deaf Advocates.
\nNov 10 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 1st Mixed Bowling Tourney at Garland. Afterwards come to DAD and meet
\nMiss Deaf Texas, Katherine Murch. She and her Miss Deaf Texas Pageant
\ncommittee will sell food at 5:00 pm.
\nNov 11 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Deaf Celebration committee meeting, @11:00 am
\n– Winter Bazaar, @ 1 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 6pm; RSVP booth required by Nov 3rd.
