\n\tCall for Workshops 2014<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe National Association of the Deaf (NAD) invites innovative and interesting presenters to submit workshop proposals for exciting, informative and forward-looking presentations at the 52nd Biennial NAD Conference taking place at the Hilton Atlanta on July 1-5, 2014 in Atlanta, Georgia! Presenters have the opportunity to unveil new ideas, concepts, research, studies, or visions, as well as engage with audiences. In addition, presenters get discounted registration prices at $100 off the combo rate!  The discounted presenter rate is limited to two presenters per workshop.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tWho Will Attend the Conference?<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Biennial National Conference attendees consist of deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, deaf blind and hearing participants who are diverse and from all walks of life, of all ages and backgrounds, from across the nation and internationally. Attendees typically include federal, state and local government staff, private sector employees and employers, community leaders, service providers, educators, parents, professionals, college students, senior citizens as well as youth who are seeking to exercise their leadership potential.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tWorkshop Tracks<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tTraditionally, the Biennial National Conferences have welcomed education and training workshops on a variety of topics, with tracks that are relevant and appeal to all ages – ranging from youth to those who are young at heart. This general focus will continue, with the inclusion of skills development and advancement strategies appropriate for the workplace. The workshop presentations should also relate to the principles of self-determination, self-representation and self-expression that resulted in the establishment of the NAD in 1880 and guides its work to this day.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe tracks for the 2014 Conference in Atlanta, Georgia include the following:\n<\/p>\n

\n\tBilingualism & Education
\n\tCivil Rights & Legal Advocacy
\n\tEmployment & Entrepreneurship
\n\tInclusion & Intersectionality
\n\tState & Local Level Advocacy (Legislative & Educational)
\n\tTechnology – Accessibility & Usability
\n\tAdditional Areas of Interest
\n\tScreening and Selection Process\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe workshop proposals are selected based on overall quality and relevance in addition to the three C’s (clarity, conciseness, and completeness) by a conference screening committee knowledgeable in content areas for all tracks. The proposals should offer content that is novel and interesting to a variety of attendees and promotes audience participation. Past evaluations show that attendees prefer presentations that are relevant, interactive and forward-looking.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tPlease understand that we cannot accept all submitted proposals. Submitted proposals that fail to include all required information or are not clear will not be considered. In addition, submitted proposals that market specific products or services will be rejected; the Exhibit Hall is available for this purpose.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tEach workshop will be in one-hour and fifteen minute (75 minute) presentation slots, scheduled with careful attention to conference program balance, starting at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 and ending at 4:15 pm on Friday, July 4, 2014. Prospective presenters should be prepared to present during this timeframe, as assigned by the conference scheduling committee.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tAll presentation proposals must be submitted online, using the required form. Prospective presenters are encouraged to prepare their own MS Word files and then copy\/paste content to the online form to prevent accidental loss of information while filling out the form online.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tPresenter Requirements<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tPresenters must be prepared to describe presentation content fully to ensure accessibility.
\n\tVideos shown during presentations must be open-captioned.
\n\tPresentation handouts must be provided in hard copy as well as accessible format; the NAD will provide guidance in this regard.
\n\tApproved primary and co-presenters are required to pre-register (active NAD membership is required) for the conference by May 1, 2014, and are responsible for their own travel and accommodations.
\n\tNote: CART and interpreting services in addition to LCDs, PC laptops loaded with MS Office and projection screens will be provided for all workshops.\n<\/p>\n
