We are currently expanding our Independent Living (IL) Program to include an ASL Service Coordinator. This individual must be an NIC or State certified interpreter, who is willing to work with LIFE\/RUN management to establish an interpreting program that is responsive to the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing community.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tApplicant must possess basic computer skills and be able to work independently. Starting&nbsp;salary range is $30,000 &#8211; $34,000, depending on experience. Fringe benefits include paid sick and vacation leave, retirement plan, generous holiday schedule and medical insurance.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>Essential Tasks:<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t1. Understands and subscribes to the philosophy and values of independent living, culturally relevant education, Consumer empowerment, and community integration.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t2. Provides Interpreting services to Consumers and non-Consumers in accordance with the American Sign Language Interpreters Code of Ethics.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t3. Provide Sign-to-Voice and Voice-to-Sign interpreting\/transliterating services in the community setting.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t4. Maintains full, accurate, and current documentation as required and submits billing information in specified time frames.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t5. Develops relationships with local government agencies, public accommodations and other social service agencies to formalize contracts for delivery of communication services.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t6. Educates businesses and agencies in the community of their obligations to provide equal communication to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t7. Assists in developing and maintaining a current calendar of activities related to the Deaf community (ASL classes, Peer Support groups, etc.).&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t8. Networks with individuals with disabilities and organizations representing\/serving individuals with communication disabilities within the community.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t9. Complies with LIFE&rsquo;s policies and procedures and utilizes resources efficiently.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t10. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe previous statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<strong>Qualifications\/Skills:<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t1. Must be NIC or State certified\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t2. Strong understanding of Deaf culture\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t3. Good articulation and voicing skills\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t4. Ability to utilize sufficient sign vocabulary to ensure proper interpretation for various academic, vocational and professional subject matters\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t5. Must have a good working knowledge of interpreter code of ethics\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t6. Thorough knowledge of issues and challenges experienced by individuals with disabilities\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t7. Excellent organizational and time management skills\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t8. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work well with individuals from a variety of backgrounds\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t9. Ability to maintain a professional attitude, particularly in stressful situations&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t10. Attention to detail and discretion with confidential information\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t11. Knowledge and competence of computers and software applications, particularly Microsoft Office\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t12.
