Bernadette McLean Allen, 81, a retired teacher, died Wednesday, Dec.
\n5, 2007, at a local care center.<\/p>\n
Graveside service: 1 p.m. Saturday in Oakland Cemetery in Fordyce,
\nArk. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Thompson’s Harveson & Cole
\nFuneral Home.<\/p>\n
Memorials: Her memory may be honored with a gift to the Goodrich
\nCenter for the Deaf, 2500 Lipscomb, Fort Worth, Texas 76110. <\/p>\n
Bernadette was born April 15, 1926, in Stirling, Alberta, Canada, to
\nJohn and Althea Darr McLean. She graduated from Leighbridge Collegiate
\nInstitute and later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.
\nDuring her lifetime, she taught at public schools and special schools
\nin Yorktown, Waco, Texas City and, for last 16 years, Fort Worth.
\nLastly, she taught at Trimble Tech, retiring in 1987. <\/p>\n
Bernadette was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She was also
\na former member of Broadway Baptist Church and an active member of
\nOakhill Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Reuben P. Allen Jr.<\/p>\n
Survivors: Sons, Reuben P. Allen III and his wife, Donna, and Bruce
\nEdward Allen (deaf) and his wife, Andrea (deaf ); grandchildren,
\nChelsey, Dalton, Logan and Lane Allen; great-grandchild, Charles
\nAllen Harwood; sisters, Althea Turnbull and her husband, Gerald, and
\nPhyliss Cockrell and her husband, Stanley; and nephews and nieces. <\/p>\n
