Your future with CSD begins<br \/>\ntoday. <\/p>\n<p>Hearing Loss Resource Specialist (Austin (Region 7), TX) <\/p>\n<p>This Position is a Grant-Funded Position and will be filled,<br \/>\ncontingent upon grant award notice. <\/p>\n<p>Position Description: <\/p>\n<p>The Hearing Loss Resource Specialist facilitates access to services<br \/>\nof federal, state and local governments, organizations and private<br \/>\nentities for persons who are hard of hearing, late-deafened or oral<br \/>\ndeaf and who may be un-served or underserved in Region Seven. The<br \/>\nSpecialist also works with state and local governments, organizations<br \/>\nand private entities to make their services accessible and readily<br \/>\navailable to consumers by removing attitudinal and communication<br \/>\naccess barriers. The program assists consumers by sharing information<br \/>\nabout services available, and offers direct support in the various<br \/>\naspects of coping with hearing loss by providing training,<br \/>\ninformation and referral services. <\/p>\n<p>Essential Functions: <\/p>\n<p>** Provide consultative knowledge and expertise in working directly<br \/>\nwith hard of hearing, late-deafened or oral deaf consumers across<br \/>\nhearing loss topics (i.e., coping mechanisms, assistive technology,<br \/>\nmaintaining a holistic lifestyle- family, employment, social circle<br \/>\nsupport, etc.). <\/p>\n<p>** Work with consumers to identify service needs and link consumers<br \/>\nto resources (i.e., support groups, social networks) and services<br \/>\n(i.e., vocational rehabilitation, audiological) to facilitate<br \/>\ncontinued independence and communication access. <\/p>\n<p>** Develop a peer network among un-served or underserved hard of<br \/>\nhearing citizens and stakeholders to promote awareness of such<br \/>\nservices and support system towards a systems change advocacy<br \/>\ncapacity. <\/p>\n<p>** Market the positive facets of living with a hearing loss through<br \/>\ngeneral public awareness (i.e., assistive device demonstration,<br \/>\nhearing loss trends) and targeted outreach activities (i.e., service<br \/>\nprovider training, consumer recruitment) to enhance services,<br \/>\nresources, utilization and awareness of issues. <\/p>\n<p>** Ensure services and outcomes are of expected quality through<br \/>\nfollow-up contacts with consumers. <\/p>\n<p>** Work closely with the Regional Specialist to develop competencies<br \/>\nfor providing services to hard of hearing, late-deafened and oral<br \/>\ndeaf consumers including partnership roles in the provision of direct<br \/>\nservices, consultation and public education activities. <\/p>\n<p>** Develop partnerships (i.e., audiologists, hearing aid dispensers,<br \/>\nspeech-language pathologists, state and local service provider<br \/>\nagencies, educational systems, private businesses, and nursing homes)<br \/>\nthrough outreaching and networking activities to facilitate equal<br \/>\naccess and the provision of services. <\/p>\n<p>** Work collaboratively with state and local governments,<br \/>\norganizations and private entities to make services accessible and<br \/>\nreadily available to consumers by removing attitudinal and<br \/>\ncommunication access barriers. <\/p>\n<p>** Maintain electronic and paper database of service records to<br \/>\ncomply with funding and programmatic reporting requirements. <\/p>\n<p>** Perform other related tasks as assigned. <\/p>\n<p>Qualifications: <\/p>\n<p>** Bachelor\u0019s Degree in related human service field or equivalent<br \/>\nexperience required <\/p>\n<p>** Must be able to communicate effectively with deaf and hard of<br \/>\nhearing individuals and demonstrate the ability to advocate the<br \/>\nrights of these individuals <\/p>\n<p>** Must have knowledge of telecommunication equipment devices for<br \/>\ndeaf and hard of hearing consumers <\/p>\n<p>** Familiarity with hard of hearing issues, hearing loss types,<br \/>\ncommunication access options (i.e., CART) strategies, differences in<br \/>\nthe thresholds of deafness, and legal rights (i.e., ADA, IDEA) of<br \/>\nhard of hearing individuals. <\/p>\n<p>** Demonstrated respect and sensitivity to the various communication,<br \/>\ncoping and amplification (i.e., cochlear implant) issues and decisions<br \/>\nmade by the target population <\/p>\n<p>** Familiarity with local, state and national resources for the hard<br \/>\nof hearing population. <\/p>\n<p>** Ability to effectively foster good public relations within the<br \/>\ncommunity <\/p>\n<p>** Knowledge of deaf culture and resources related to deafness <\/p>\n<p>** Experience and skills in making public presentations <\/p>\n<p>** Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows software (Word, Excel,<br \/>\nPowerPoint, Outlook) <\/p>\n<p>** Must have own transportation and be willing to travel <\/p>\n<p>BENEFITS <\/p>\n<p>** Wages based upon experience; PTO, Health\/Vision\/Dental Insurance,<br \/>\nEAP.
