CSD Appoints Dr. Bobbie Beth Scoggins as Newest Member of Executive

Sioux Falls, S.D. \u0013 CSD, the world’s premier private, non-profit
\ntelecommunication and human service organization for deaf and hard of
\nhearing individuals, proudly announced the selection of Dr. Bobbie
\nBeth Scoggins to the position of chief operating officer (C.O.O.),
\neffective Jan. 2, 2008. In this position, Scoggins will assume
\nresponsibility for all aspects of CSD\u0019s human service divisions,
\nincluding community interpreting, national programs and services,
\nCamp Lakodia, CSD-TV and SIGNews. <\/p>\n
A nationally renowned leader and advocate of human service programs,
\nScoggins brings to CSD nearly 25 years of experience leading the
\ndevelopment and delivery of human services, video technology
\napplications, regulatory and government relations, management as well
\nas promoting sports and the arts. <\/p>\n
In making the announcement, Dr. Benjamin Soukup, CSD chief executive
\nofficer, said, “I am pleased with this appointment and look forward
\nto Bobbie Beth’s important role on our executive team. Given the
\ncompany’s strategic focus on its core capabilities in human services,
\ninterpreting and technology, we concluded that Bobbie Beth’s extensive
\nexperience, thorough knowledge of human service operations and
\ndemonstrated leadership capabilities suit her well for this type of
\nposition in our organization.” <\/p>\n
“I have dealt with Bobbie Beth on numerous projects in various
\ncapacities and I have consistently been very impressed with her
\ninitiative, \u0018can-do\u0019 attitude and her leadership. I am firmly

Most recently, Dr. Scoggins was the executive director for the
\nKentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. During her
\n14-year tenure there, Scoggins had accomplished amazing results \u0013
\nsurpassing all expectations and bringing national recognition to the
\nstate of Kentucky as being one of the most progressive in deaf and
\nhard of hearing services. She was instrumental in establishing a
\ntelecommunications access program, a state licensure law for sign
\nlanguage interpreters, an educational resource center on deafness,
\nuniversal newborn hearing screening, insurance coverage for hearing
\naids, mental health programs for deaf and hard of hearing consumers,
\nTV captioning and a statewide videoconferencing network, the famous
\nKentucky Deafestival, and many other initiatives. <\/p>\n
Prior to that, she had experience as the executive director of the
\nTexas Foundation on Deafness; served as an ADA, Section 504 and equal
\nopportunity specialist; a director of an alcohol and drug program; was
\na business manager for an architectural firm; and has had varied
\nexperiences as a teacher, actress, lecturer, author, researcher,
\nathlete, lobbyist, political campaign manager, and board member of
\nnumerous civic and community organizations. She is currently the
\npresident of the National Association of the Deaf. <\/p>\n
Bobbie Beth received her Ed.D. in institutional management from
\nPepperdine University, her master\u0019s degree in administration from the
\nCalifornia State University at Northridge (CSUN) and her bachelor\u0019s
\ndegree in psychology also from CSUN. <\/p>\n
About CSD – CSD (a.k.a. Communication Service for the Deaf, Inc.) was
\nestablished in 1975, primarily to provide sign language interpreting
\nservices to deaf and hard of hearing citizens in the state of South
\nDakota. Today however, CSD employs over 2000 individuals nationwide
\nto provide a broad continuum of social or human services as well as
\ntelecommunication relay services for an estimated 15 million deaf and
\nhard of hearing consumers. CSD is a private, non-profit organization
