{"id":26613,"date":"2014-03-06T17:44:48","date_gmt":"2014-03-06T23:44:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/?p=26613"},"modified":"2014-03-06T17:44:48","modified_gmt":"2014-03-06T23:44:48","slug":"communication-sciences-and-disorder-department-hosts-deaf-ed-lecture-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2014\/03\/06\/communication-sciences-and-disorder-department-hosts-deaf-ed-lecture-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Communication Sciences and Disorder department hosts deaf ed lecture series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Communication Sciences and Disorder department <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"e5099103-bdcd-4fd6-b27c-5207fa5656d9\">hosts<\/span> deaf <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"91ade3de-e52d-47e8-a56d-cc1a321f5535\">ed<\/span> lecture series<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Marc Marschark hosted a two-day seminar this week<\/p>\n<p>February 21, 2014<\/p>\n<p>The room was silent until the sign language interpreters translated <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"8314a3f3-da4a-4653-ab75-fe28e6ec05c9\">of<\/span> understanding the research of educating deaf children.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders hosted a <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"3bde2fa1-7e36-4ddc-a19d-aba656f27391\">lecture seminar<\/span> on Wednesday night over the research findings and practices of educating and raising children who are deaf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to explain the research and practices of raising and educating deaf kids rather than politics and opinions,\u201d said Dr. Marc Marschark, professor of National Technical Institute of Deaf and director for the Center for Education Resource partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture, entitled &#8220;The Questions You Wanted To Ask But Never Did,&#8221; was held for parents of deaf and hard-of-hearing children in the area to educate them about the different research scenarios for educating their children.<\/p>\n<p>There were various individuals in the audience, including parents of deaf children that wanted additional information on how to help their children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI came to the event because my son is deaf, and he\u2019s asked why he\u2019s deaf,\u201d Maria Flores said. \u201cSo I came to find out more answers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"5f81486a-f513-4354-9e3d-ae698783e225\">Marschark<\/span> was the Green Honors Chair speaker hosted by the Department of Communication Science and Disorders. Dr. Marc Marschark is a professor at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf and director of the Center for Education Resource partnerships, according to the TCU news and events website.<\/p>\n<p>The parents Q&amp;A was one of two free lectures that Marschark did on campus to share research information about deaf education in the last two d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of our program is to help deaf children become fully functional citizens in society,\u201d assistant professor Teresa Gonzalez said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the TCU news and events website, Dr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"11013e0e-cb77-41b7-84c4-0308ec2e3c15\">Marschark<\/span> held an informational lecture, &#8220;Evidence-based Practice with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students,&#8221;
