Today,
a holiday reception is being held in the Horizon Bank lobby on the
ground floor of the building, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Hosted by the TSD
Foundation and sponsored by Horizon Bank, friends and supporters of
TSD are invited for a special guided tour of the current student
exhibit, as well as a look into the school\u0019s long history of
educating deaf and hard of hearing children in Texas. Each window
tells its own story and acquaints onlookers with the aspiring artists
behind the creative works.

On exhibit through January 7th, the Scarbrough windows are adorned
with large four by eight foot multimedia posters, holiday inspired
art and video compilations. Also on display is a hanging photo
montage and a giant \u001cHands\u001d mobile, all created by TSD student
artists. Featured in the Sixth Street window is a winterized replica
of the school\u0019s treasured \u001cTowers\u001d building that dominated the Austin
skyline from 1877 to 1957. The Sixth Street art deco lobby of the
Scarbrough showcases pieces from TSD\u0019s historical exhibit, \u001cThe
Greatest Story Never Heard\u001d, originally on display last year at the
Austin Bergstrom International Airport in honor of the TSD\u0019s
Sesquicentennial anniversary. Comparing items \u001cthen and now\u001d from the
last 100 years, see the evolution of educational approaches in the
classroom, school uniforms, assistive technologies and athletics. See
how TSD has grown into a leading-edge institution of learning with a
national reputation for excellence in deaf education.

WHAT: Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) Holiday Reception

WHEN: Tuesday, December 18, 2007

WHERE:

Scarbrough Building \u0013 Downtown Austin

101 West Sixth Street

Austin Texas 78701

Southwest corner of Sixth Street and Congress Avenue

With a strong belief in culture and community, at TSD, students form
a unique identity based on their individual strengths and talents,
rather than their disabilities.
