Then the deaf couple received a note they consider deeply insulting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Please text, deaf and dumb,&#8221; read the handwritten words on an airline form that accompanied the delivery of their lost suitcases.<\/p>\n<p>It was enough to incense hearing-impaired James Moehle and Angela Huckaby, who were returning from a vacation in Hawaii when American Airlines misplaced their bags and later had them delivered to the couple&#8217;s home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I assure you that neither of us are &#8216;Dumb!'&#8221; Moehle fired off in a letter to the air carrier. &#8220;Rather, we are both hard-working individuals and responsible parents. We certainly deserve to be treated with dignity and respect,&#8221; ABC News reported.<\/p>\n<p>American Airlines apologized to the hearing-impaired Texas couple for a note describing them as \u2018deaf and dumb,\u2019 which accompanied the delivery of their lost luggage.<\/p>\n<p>American Airlines said it was sorry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We apologize to Mr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"af0ea5ce-b89b-41a2-979f-bc6071c2054f\">Moehle<\/span> and Ms. Huckaby. It was clearly a very poor choice of words. We&#8217;re confident there was no ill will, but we&#8217;ll be looking into this further and will be following up,&#8221; the transportation firm said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dumb&#8221; is a grossly outdated term that refers to being unable to speak. Deaf people consider it degrading.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"2c1faeb0-3310-4c9a-a008-fdf50cc6c509\">Moehle<\/span> and his mother were not mollified by the apology. They want the offending note writer disciplined.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I found it to be like a slap in the face <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"3cb9e822-6310-4012-b052-f9e342afad38\">to<\/span> my son,&#8221; Kaye Moehle said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was extremely unacceptable, hurtful and cruel,&#8221; Mrs. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"f7f1b6d5-1633-4cbf-82b3-cb532e943505\">Moehle<\/span> said. &#8220;People don&#8217;t understand. The deaf couple wants more the apology American Airlines issued over the \u2018deaf and dumb\u2019 note. They want disciplinary action against the note writer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They have to go to work just like you and I, and we are so fortunate that we have our hearing. Hearing people aren&#8217;t ever called &#8216;hearing and dumb,'&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"3319d0ab-3c98-4255-af30-4c4c05a2c23d\">Moehle<\/span>, an air conditioning and heating technician, lost most of his hearing at age 17 months when he contracted spinal meningitis.
