The incredible
exhibit of student art and history is on display through January 7th
at the Scarbrough building. After a recent visit, Pat Pound,
Executive Director of the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with
Disabilities, commented “it is fantastic&what a wonderful Christmas
gift TSD has given the city of Austin.”

The Scarbrough building’s windows are adorned with giant multimedia
posters, holiday inspired art and incredible video compilations, all
created by TSD student artists. Featured in the Sixth Street window
is a winterized replica of the school’s treasured “Towers” building
that dominated the Austin skyline from 1877 to 1957. Each window
display tells its own story and acquaints onlookers with the aspiring
artists behind the creative works. There are even opportunities to
learn a few American Sign Language signs used in communication among
deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

Inside the Sixth Street art deco lobby of the Scarbrough, TSD
showcases pieces from its historical exhibit, “The Greatest Story
Never Heard”, originally on display last year at the Austin Bergstrom
International Airport in honor of the school’s Sesquicentennial
anniversary. Comparing items “then and now” from the last 100 years,
see the evolution of educational approaches in the classroom, school
uniforms, assistive technologies and athletics, and see how TSD has
grown into a leading-edge institution of learning with a national
reputation for excellence in deaf education.

WHAT: Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) Holiday Art and Historic
Display

WHEN: Through January 7, 2008

WHERE: Scarbrough Building – Downtown Austin

101 West Sixth Street, Austin Texas 78701

Southwest corner of Sixth Street and Congress Avenue

With a strong belief in culture and community at TSD, students form a
unique identity based on their individual strengths and talents,
rather than their disabilities. TSD is an environment where students
learn, grow, and belong.
