Announcing the Deaf Services Program at SafePlace <\/p>\n
On February 18, 2008, access to SafePlace services for Deaf survivors
\nof sexual and domestic violence will expand. The Deaf Services program
\nnow includes two Deaf staff members with experience working with
\nsurvivors – Jeannie Brown, Deaf Services Advocacy Coordinator and
\nVonnie Basham, Deaf Services Counseling Coordinator. Jeannie and
\nVonnie will take the beginning of the year to introduce the community
\nto the services SafePlace offers. <\/p>\n
Services offered by Deaf Services staff will include individual
\ncounseling, advocacy, support groups, and parenting classes for women
\nand men who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault. <\/p>\n
Shelter and transitional housing services will also still be
\navailable through SafePlace. At SafePlace, we practice
\nconfidentiality about clients and services they access so that people
\nare safe and can discuss <\/p>\n
their options about unhealthy or abusive relationships. The Deaf
\ncommunity will have choices about working with a SafePlace counselor
\nor advocate fluent in ASL or working with a hearing staff member
\nthrough an interpreter. <\/p>\n
On Thursday, January 24, 2008 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, SafePlace invites
\nthe Deaf community for an Open House to learn more about SafePlace and
\nthe services we provide. SafePlace is located at 1515A Grove Blvd.
\nThere will be light refreshments and door prize giveaways. Please
\nRSVP to either Jeannie or Vonnie by January 18th. If you have
\naccommodation requests for the open house, please let us know by
\nJanuary 18th. <\/p>\n
