Hello Members and Friends of DAD; <\/p>\n
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday during the last two weeks. My
\nhusband, Preston, and I were practically like semi-lazy bums. While we
\nwere in Wisconsin, during Christmas week, we were able to watch many
\nold\/new Christmas movies; as well as, some football games in between.
\nIt snowed almost all day last week Thursday (approx 7 to 8 inch), it
\nwas so beautiful! <\/p>\n
This month’s message will be a bit longer than usual. So much
\nhappened and I want to share my excitement with you all. <\/p>\n
A bit over three weeks ago, we had a fabulous Christmas Dinner before
\nplaying CINGO. The DAD Board Members want to thank everyone who bought
\nin their potluck dishes. It had the most variety kinds of food, I
\nbelieve all were delicious. CINGO Committee was able to raise enough
\nmoney to purchase Honey Baked Ham and Brisket meat plus gave out some
\nprizes in between the CINGO game! The CINGO Committee wants to
\nespecially thank the food helpers, Cindi Nagy, Sherry Nunn and Maxine
\nSatarino. <\/p>\n
The Winter Holiday Party for Children committee met and prepared for
\ntheir event ever since last summer. They were able to receive a $500
\nsupport from Sprint, $200 from CINGO and a few long time loyal
\nmembers also gave donations. At the beginning, the committee was
\nconcerned whether or not they would have enough toys. We were
\nfortunate to meet Cheryl Jimeson, who is Mark Phillips’ cousin. She’s
\na member of Spirit Celebration (it’s a cheerleader competition
\nnon-profit organization) which selected DAD as one of the five
\norganizations to receive toys. <\/p>\n
For those who didn’t see the toys we gathered, GOLLY there was a
\nbunch! I told the committee that we need more kids because we have
\nplenty to give! <\/p>\n
We want to say a special thanks go to Stanley Green for donating
\nthree bags full of stuffed animals and sport balls. <\/p>\n
As time got closer to the winter holiday for children party date,
\nmore last minute children signed up. On the Winter Holiday Party for
\nChildren day, 100 children came along with one or both parents and
\ngrandparents. The children were able to play some toys and do some
\ncoloring while snacking on some foods I believe each child left DAD
\nwith three or more gifts in their arms after a visit with Santa Claus
\nand Ms Claus. Both Santa and Ms. Claus also could sign. <\/p>\n
We had a bit mischapped during the photographing session, we had an CSDVRS (Kathy Walters) was kind enough to contribute several toys for Also thanks goes to the Dallas Bass Anglers of the Deaf (DBAD) Then things got a bit quiet down at DAD. Many of us were resting up Dec 30 and 31, New Year Eve Committee got all round up by decorating I know many of us rested up January 1. We watched a few college Happy New Year! I hope everyone have a great, happy and healthy year Here are some upcoming events for this month and we have many! <\/p>\n Jan 5, Saturday, the TX Hold’em Poker will be held at 4pm. You may Jan 9, Wednesday, the Senior Citizen Tejas have rescheduled to gather Jan 12, Saturday, the Dallas Black Deaf Advocacy (DBDA) will meet in Jan 18, Friday, the first 2008 DAD Members’ General Meeting will be Jan 19, Saturday, CINGO will be begin at 8:00pm. Food will be sold by Jan 25 & 26, Friday & Saturday, an ASL Film “Wrong Game” will be Jan 27, Sunday, 12:00, noon, Dallas Bass Anglers of the Deaf will I believe I have covered all what been scheduled onto my calendar, There may be a couple more announcements later, once they have been I recall last year at this time of the year, weather was NOT nice and DADly yours, <\/p>\n Cathy R. \nchairperson, and his hard working committee as well as several
\nvolunteers. <\/p>\n
\nmembers who were one of the great sub-committee of the Winter Holiday
\nCommittee. They are Clifton Bryant, John Peckham, Mitchel Bien, Jesse
\nCarrizales (who also brought pint milk cartons), Will Monteleone,
\nMilton\/Pat Peters, Larry Fewell (for getting a hold of Deaf Santa
\nClaus), Ricky Schaeffer and Preston\/Cathy Ashley. They huffed and
\npuffed by feeding the children and CLEANED UP the mess. <\/p>\n
\nand celebrating our holidays with family and\/or friends. <\/p>\n
\nDAD up which I was truly impressed! Special thanks go to CSDVRS
\n(Kathy Walters) for providing several decorations along with head
\npieces, necklaces, etc. Co-chairpersons Cindi Nagy and Kent Reneau
\nmet with the committee met several times before the event occurred.
\nWe had 78 early bird ticket purchased and we were prepared for
\napproximately 50 more individuals to show up at the last minute at
\nthe door. It came to our surprise that over 130 people showed up at
\nthe door. Everyone had something to eat at 7:00pm and also a midnight
\nbreakfast. Music was shaking the glitters on the tables! I must thank
\nCalvin Nagy for his generousity by allowing us to use his speakers
\nwhen ours were not working. <\/p>\n
\nfootball games and a couple movies as well before we get our normal
\nroutine schedule back. Before I get ahead of myself, I want to say
\nfrom my heart “THANK YOU” to many of you who have helped and
\nsupported me, the DAD Board, and many committees throughout the year
\nof 2007. <\/p>\n
\nof 2008. I most certainly hope you visit DAD more often or possible
\nsign up one or more of the committees. We could ALWAYS use help in
\nmany areas. <\/p>\n

\nKatherine Murch by purchasing a spaghetti dinner plate. Katherine does
\nabsolutely have a great potential of becoming our next Miss Deaf
\nAmerica. Come, bring your friends along and meet this wonderful young
\nbrilliant lady. <\/p>\n
