Told in two voices, \u201cStrong Deaf\u201d is a book that depicts the confusing but powerful bond between sisters. Jade and Marla don\u2019t have much in common. Jade can hear, and Marla is deaf. Marla liked to sleep late, read magazines, text her friends, and discuss deaf politics with her parents. Jade loves to cook with their dad and dance to loud songs on the radio.<\/p>\n

Marla attends a residential school for the deaf and comes home for the summer. They both enjoy playing softball, but it looks like it’s going to be a long, painful season when Jade and Marla end up on the same team.<\/p>\n
