This set of workshops will provide training to any certified
\ninterpreter and will increase the skill level of Courtroom certified
\ninterpreters. During this course we will present vocabulary for
\ncourtroom situations, hear presentations by legal professionals,
\ndiscuss the role of the interpreter in the courtroom, and participate
\nin practical application sessions using actual courtroom transcripts.
\nWorkshop materials include a transcript and video from a Houston Area
\nDWI Trial defended by Advocacy, Inc. Please bring a potluck dish to
\nshare with the group. <\/p>\n

Day 1 (Sunday) <\/p>\n

Review of Judicial System <\/p>\n
Discuss Courtroom Experiences <\/p>\n
Discus vocabulary used in legal proceeding for DWI trial <\/p>\n
Interpret actual DWI case and discuss feedback <\/p>\n
*Attendance at Day 1 is required for admission to Day 2. <\/p>\n

Presentation by Legal Professional about the DWI trial process <\/p>\n
The Role of the Court Interpreter in the US Legal System <\/p>\n
Courtroom Logistics <\/p>\n
Interpret court proceeding and give feedback<\/p>\n
Participants will: <\/p>\n
Learn new and review court specific vocabulary in English and ASL <\/p>\n
Gain knowledge of the court system <\/p>\n
Practice interpreting skills as applied to a trial situation <\/p>\n

Both workshops will be held at The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center ,
