Happy 20th anniversary, Library Friends Section (LFS) of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), in which mission is to promote library access and quality resources for the deaf diversity of America!<\/p>\n<p>Yes, today America is a federal constitutional republic containing 56 unique, distinct jurisdictions, each with its own cultures, traditions, laws and the like &#8211; 50 states, DC, two commonwealths and three territories.<\/p>\n<p>Build it, they will come! Deaf Culture Digital Library in all parts of America 2<\/p>\n<p>On July 4, 1816, America celebrated its 40th birth anniversary a month before Laurent Clerc from France arrived in America with Thomas H. Gallaudet on August 9, 1816.<\/p>\n<p>Clerc, the first deaf visionary leader in the field of American education, and the two others (T.H. Gallaudet and Dr. Mason Fitch Cogswell) co-founded <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"51c14cc9-e589-4192-a631-f3c3c6da8eae\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"6de75614-d5e0-4424-8578-b85502c6f591\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"c9e783c8-6d6c-4afe-875a-52a96f0d9684\">American School<\/span><\/span><\/span> for the Deaf on April 15, 1817 in Hartford, CT. It was the first kind of the school in America; it used public funds \u2013 an idea for the hearing and also for the blind to do the same in the late 1830s!<\/p>\n<p>*A poster (8.5\u201d x 11\u201d) \u201cDeaf America Reads\u201d designed by Lois Hoover, Deaf artist, for the National Literary Society of the Deaf, is included in the FOLDA KIT: Laurent Clerc and Gallaudet University. This kit is a fundraiser by <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"de61e134-a040-4ae1-b2f1-af61942428ff\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"5b935f7f-8d13-4d22-bf80-5a8ceffea1b1\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"1e030d8c-c005-4269-b7e7-ca9865e7d996\">Gallaudet Class<\/span><\/span><\/span> of 1957 for Gallaudet Archives. The cost is 25 dollars each packet (folder) which also includes two other posters (Laurent Clerc and Abb\u00e9 l\u2019\u00c9p\u00e9e) by Jean Boutcher, Deaf artist. And for the packet with a binder and 20 sheet protectors and plus one complimentary poster of George W. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"5c4de9a3-c92e-414e-979f-47c74db3f4f5\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"5624de91-df64-47f8-87bd-7025628123db\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"458b9e6a-1e62-4c65-a5f4-8d515b4762a0\">Veditz<\/span><\/span><\/span> by Deaf artist, Nancy Rourke, the cost is 45 dollars. If interested to purchase either item: packet only or <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"1cabd050-6e0c-40b6-8383-32e65ff6d17f\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"a4110b73-963d-404d-a500-6341a9076fc6\">packet<\/span><\/span> with the binder, sheets and extra poster, please add $5 for shipping. First come, first served.<\/p>\n<p>2 On May 15, 2014, Maryland Governor Martin O\u2019Malley signed the <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"4db30fe9-2ea4-4447-82dc-8356aff9b9f6\"><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"cf979dc4-fdaf-4ea0-a42a-0eff6a3ab1ec\">historical<\/span><\/span> bill into law \u2013 Deaf Culture Digital Library (DCDL) &#8211; which requires the Division of Library Development and Services (DLSD) of the MD State Dept of Education to establish as the primary information center on deaf resources for library customers and staff in the state of Maryland <a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/2014RS\/bills\/hb\/hb0653f.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/2014RS\/bills\/hb\/hb0653f.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Submitted by Alice L.
