Grant money available to install specialized equipment<\/p>\n

STILLWATER, Okla. \u2014Some local organizations have teamed up to provide fire protection equipment for the hearing impaired.<\/p>\n

The Oklahoma Assistive Technology Foundation will use grant money to install specialized smoke alarms and other equipment in homes across 24 counties in central Oklahoma.<\/p>\n

Individuals of all ages with a documented hearing impairment, who live in the following counties, are eligible to apply to have the equipment installed in their home: Atoka, Canadian, Cleveland, Comanche, Creek, Hughes, Kay, Kingfisher, Lincoln, Logan, McClain, McIntosh, Noble, Oklahoma, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Payne, Pittsburg, Pottawatomie, Rogers, Tulsa, Wagoner and Washington.<\/p>\n

The foundation partnered with Oklahoma ABLE Tech and Oklahoma State University for the project.<\/p>\n

The special equipment also includes strobe lights and a machine that can shake a bed if smoke is detected.<\/p>\n
