Work involves<br \/>\ninterpreting or translating English into American Sign Language and<br \/>\nAmerican Sign Language into English or other applicable language.<br \/>\nDuties may include but are not limited to interpreting during:<br \/>\nmeetings, interviews, counseling, emergencies, staff development,<br \/>\nGoverning Board meetings, conferences, student mainstream classes,<br \/>\nout of town assignments, as well as teaching sign language classes.<br \/>\nThe position requires flexible hours and the ability to travel to<br \/>\nmeet the needs of the students and staff including nights and\/or<br \/>\nweekends as required. Must have reliable transportation and be able<br \/>\nto respond and adapt to changing assignments in a prescribed time<br \/>\nframe. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for<br \/>\nthe use of initiative and independent judgment.<\/p>\n<p>SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES <\/p>\n<p> Interprets or translates English into American Sign Language and<br \/>\nAmerican Sign Language into English<br \/>\n Interprets languages within classrooms or other educational<br \/>\nenvironments for the agency or clients of the agency<br \/>\n Performs specialized translation duties<br \/>\n Performs technical program assistance work<br \/>\n Travels to daily assignments in prescribed time frame<br \/>\n Able to travel to assignments both in and out of state as requested<br \/>\n Expresses Ideas clearly and concisely through sign language, orally,<br \/>\nand in writing<br \/>\n Performs related work as assigned <\/p>\n<p>SUPERVISOR<\/p>\n<p>Coordinator of Interpreting Services<\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED <\/p>\n<p> Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent<br \/>\n BEI Level III, IV, V, Advanced or Masters Certification from the<br \/>\nDeaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Board for Evaluation of<br \/>\nInterpreters, or equivalent (Certificate of Interpreting AND<br \/>\nCertificate of Transliterating CI\/CT or Comprehensive Skills<br \/>\nCertificate CSC from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf)<br \/>\n Two years interpreting experience with deaf students and\/or adults<br \/>\nin any of the following or related areas: platform, business,<br \/>\ntechnical, classroom, sign-to-voice, medical, counseling<br \/>\n Sign Language: At hire, the applicant must have sign language skills<br \/>\nequivalent to a Signed Communication Proficiency Inventory (SCPI)<br \/>\nlevel of ADVANCED for BEI III or Advanced Certification, SUPERIOR for<br \/>\nBEI IV, V, or Masters Certification.
