Starting Wage: $3,534.30 per month (BEI III or Advanced), $3,906.60
\nper month (BEI IV), $4,319.70 per month (BEI V or Masters); (salary
\nbased on Interpreter certification status and may be higher based on
\nskills and\/or qualifications; half time will be half the amount
\nlisted above)
\n Number of Openings: 1 full time and 1 half time or 3 half time <\/p>\n
Qualified TSD staff may have the opportunity to earn additional
\ncompensation through supplemental employment activities such as
\nsummer school positions, athletic coaching, academic tutoring,
\nextracurricular sponsors, and short-term outreach programs. <\/p>\n
GENERAL DESCRIPTION<\/p>\n
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Interpreting Services
\nperforms advanced (senior-level) interpreter work. Work involves
\ninterpreting or translating English into American Sign Language and
\nAmerican Sign Language into English or other applicable language.
\nDuties may include but are not limited to interpreting during:
\nmeetings, interviews, counseling, emergencies, staff development,
\nGoverning Board meetings, conferences, student mainstream classes,
\nout of town assignments, as well as teaching sign language classes.
\nThe position requires flexible hours and the ability to travel to
\nmeet the needs of the students and staff including nights and\/or
\nweekends as required. Must have reliable transportation and be able
\nto respond and adapt to changing assignments in a prescribed time
\nframe. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for
\nthe use of initiative and independent judgment.<\/p>\n
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES <\/p>\n
Interprets or translates English into American Sign Language and
\nAmerican Sign Language into English
\n Interprets languages within classrooms or other educational
\nenvironments for the agency or clients of the agency
\n Performs specialized translation duties
\n Performs technical program assistance work
\n Travels to daily assignments in prescribed time frame
\n Able to travel to assignments both in and out of state as requested
\n Expresses Ideas clearly and concisely through sign language, orally,
\nand in writing
\n Performs related work as assigned <\/p>\n

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED <\/p>\n
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
\n BEI Level III, IV, V, Advanced or Masters Certification from the
\nDeaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Board for Evaluation of
\nInterpreters, or equivalent (Certificate of Interpreting AND
\nCertificate of Transliterating CI\/CT or Comprehensive Skills
\nCertificate CSC from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf)
\n Two years interpreting experience with deaf students and\/or adults
\nin any of the following or related areas: platform, business,
\ntechnical, classroom, sign-to-voice, medical, counseling
\n Sign Language: At hire, the applicant must have sign language skills
\nequivalent to a Signed Communication Proficiency Inventory (SCPI)
\nlevel of ADVANCED for BEI III or Advanced Certification, SUPERIOR for
\nBEI IV, V, or Masters Certification. When applying, the applicant must
\nsubmit documentation that the applicant believes substantiates that
\nthe applicant has achieved the proficiency level required at hire. <\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED<\/p>\n
Previous experience as an interpreter in an educational setting
\n Courtroom interpreter certification
\n BA degree from an accredited university or college <\/p>\n
