About the Presenter:<\/p>\n

She is a native ASL user who grew up in Irving, Texas has taught at the Jean Massieu Academy, Texas School for the Deaf, is an accomplished ASL storyteller, and a tutor to<\/span> students who seek mastery in ASL\/English interpreting. Alicia brings her expertise in ASL and interpreting to<\/span> the DFW interpreting and deaf community where she will be working as a deaf interpreter. It is Alicia\u2019s hope to foster a community in which deaf and hearing interpreters work together to better serve the DFW and surrounding area deaf communities.<\/p>\n

Workshop Description:<\/p>\n

This workshop will focus on deaf and hearing interpreters (DI\/HI) working together in teamed<\/span> settings.<\/p>\n

Interpreters, both hearing and deaf, interested in learning the specifics of DI\/HI teams are encouraged to attend. This workshop will help HI\/DIs understand and work better together. We will explore the process of DI\/HI team interpreting in various settings, the ethical implications for having or not having deaf interpreters, best practices for using DIs, and have hands on opportunities to practice teaming.<\/p>\n

Open to Interpreters, students of interpreting, teachers of the deaf and interpreters, and the deaf community.<\/p>\n
