I certainly hope it
continues for another month before spring weather hits here!

Sadly my favorite football team Green Bay Packers didn’t make it to
the Super Bowl. Still no word whether QB Brett Farve is retiring or
going to stay on for another year. I know he captured many people’s
attention regardless of who their favorite team was. He’s one true
high spirit player of the Packers which is why it will be very hard
for him to step down.

The Miss Deaf Texas Pageant committee had their food fundraising
during TX Hold’em Poker last month. A few have asked where was
Katherine Murch. She had to stay home as she was not feeling well. We
surely hope that she is 100% healthy. She is now preparing for the
Miss Deaf America contest in New Orleans during National Association
of the Deaf conference. Good luck Katherine!

Cathy Ware, a former DAD board and currently a DAD member, took an
opportunity to celebrate her 40th birthday at DAD. The hall was
decorated in the “Hollywood” theme and she even got a DJ to come in
to ‘blast’ some music. I hope it will be her most memorable time of
her life.

The DAD Parliamentary Committee served chili during CINGO evening. It
was served either as a Frito Pie, or as a Chili Dog, or just as a bowl
of chili, with choices of onions and cheese for toppings. This was a
fundraiser to raise enough funds for the upcoming Parliamentary
Procedure Workshop, presented by Libby Pollard, a well-known Deaf
person who is also certified in parliamentary procedures. The three
day workshop will be held during the weekend of May 9 – 11, 2008.
Please mark your calendars and do come and learn more about the
parliamentary procedures. If you are a member of DAD the admission is
free.

We had two “Wrong Game” (by ASL Films) movie nights. Friday night was
half packed with viewers and Saturday night was packed and sold out.
The late comers did not mind having to stand and watch the movie.
Special thanks go to Sprint for sponsoring this event. I also want to
thank Cindi Nagy and Stonewall Jackson Elementary school for allowing
us to use their popcorn machine.

The Dallas Bass Anglers of the Deaf (DBAD) had their 6th Annual
Banquet last Sunday. Sherry Fewell did an excellent job with cooking
the briskets. I am sure those who ate her brisket would agree with me
that it was delicious. Many anglers and their wives brought delicious
homemade dishes and desserts. Larry Fewell did a great job putting
the award presentation together. Also DBAD surprised Kathy Walters,
CSDVRS, with a birthday cake. CSDVRS sponsored this event.

The recent DeafNetwork announcement by Herbert Picou of Tejas Deaf
Seniors Club announcing that TEJAS has moved to Deaf Action Center
for good was sudden news to many of us. Yet, we do understand and
wish them the best.

It has came to my attention to appoint a Senior Citizen liaison
person, Larry Campero. If you are a Senior Citizen (55 years old or
above) and desire to continue to have Senior Citizens activities at
DAD please do contact Larry. His email is pizzeria22@verizon.net
<mailto :pizzeria22@verizon.net>
and VP: 972-783-8963.

Now for some DAD upcoming events:

Feb 1, Friday – Prime Time, Sign Time at 8:00pm for those who want to
learn more ASL. This is also a great opportunity for Deaf ASL
storytellers to share their stories and jokes!

Feb 2, Saturday – TX Hold’em Poker begins at 4:00pm; the DAD Building
committee will have hamburgers and hotdogs as a fundraiser.

Feb 3, Sunday – ‘The Big Game’ – Super Bowl Party will be held. Door
opens at 10:00 am and eat by 1:00 pm. For those who have not
purchased early bird party tickets (including meal), it will be
$15.00 at door. Then CINGO will be played at 8:00pm.

Feb 21, Thursday – Sprint Relay Store Wireless Workshop given by Ken
Brown, Account Executive Sprint Relay Store, at 7:00 pm
http://deafnetwork.com/list/lt.php?id=ZUtZAFoHVR1QCFFQGVEDA1I%3D

Feb 22, Friday – the DAD Members\u0019 General Meeting will be held at
7:30pm. The Active membership fee is still $10.00 for one year if you
desire to participate in our meetings.

Feb 23, Saturday – Scrapbook Retreat #2.
