Hello Members and Friends of DAD, <\/p>\n
It is amazing that for the month of January, the weather was not as
\nbad as last year’s when we had several icy roads. I certainly hope it
\ncontinues for another month before spring weather hits here! <\/p>\n
Sadly my favorite football team Green Bay Packers didn’t make it to
\nthe Super Bowl. Still no word whether QB Brett Farve is retiring or
\ngoing to stay on for another year. I know he captured many people’s
\nattention regardless of who their favorite team was. He’s one true
\nhigh spirit player of the Packers which is why it will be very hard
\nfor him to step down. <\/p>\n
The Miss Deaf Texas Pageant committee had their food fundraising
\nduring TX Hold’em Poker last month. A few have asked where was
\nKatherine Murch. She had to stay home as she was not feeling well. We
\nsurely hope that she is 100% healthy. She is now preparing for the
\nMiss Deaf America contest in New Orleans during National Association
\nof the Deaf conference. Good luck Katherine! <\/p>\n
Cathy Ware, a former DAD board and currently a DAD member, took an
\nopportunity to celebrate her 40th birthday at DAD. The hall was
\ndecorated in the “Hollywood” theme and she even got a DJ to come in
\nto ‘blast’ some music. I hope it will be her most memorable time of
\nher life. <\/p>\n
The DAD Parliamentary Committee served chili during CINGO evening. It
\nwas served either as a Frito Pie, or as a Chili Dog, or just as a bowl
\nof chili, with choices of onions and cheese for toppings. This was a
\nfundraiser to raise enough funds for the upcoming Parliamentary
\nProcedure Workshop, presented by Libby Pollard, a well-known Deaf
\nperson who is also certified in parliamentary procedures. The three
\nday workshop will be held during the weekend of May 9 – 11, 2008.
\nPlease mark your calendars and do come and learn more about the
\nparliamentary procedures. If you are a member of DAD the admission is
\nfree. <\/p>\n
We had two “Wrong Game” (by ASL Films) movie nights. Friday night was
\nhalf packed with viewers and Saturday night was packed and sold out.
\nThe late comers did not mind having to stand and watch the movie.
\nSpecial thanks go to Sprint for sponsoring this event. I also want to
\nthank Cindi Nagy and Stonewall Jackson Elementary school for allowing
\nus to use their popcorn machine. <\/p>\n
The Dallas Bass Anglers of the Deaf (DBAD) had their 6th Annual
\nBanquet last Sunday. Sherry Fewell did an excellent job with cooking
\nthe briskets. I am sure those who ate her brisket would agree with me
\nthat it was delicious. Many anglers and their wives brought delicious
\nhomemade dishes and desserts. Larry Fewell did a great job putting
\nthe award presentation together. Also DBAD surprised Kathy Walters,
\nCSDVRS, with a birthday cake. CSDVRS sponsored this event. <\/p>\n
The recent DeafNetwork announcement by Herbert Picou of Tejas Deaf
\nSeniors Club announcing that TEJAS has moved to Deaf Action Center
\nfor good was sudden news to many of us. Yet, we do understand and
\nwish them the best. <\/p>\n
It has came to my attention to appoint a Senior Citizen liaison Now for some DAD upcoming events: <\/p>\n Feb 1, Friday – Prime Time, Sign Time at 8:00pm for those who want to Feb 2, Saturday – TX Hold’em Poker begins at 4:00pm; the DAD Building Feb 3, Sunday – ‘The Big Game’ – Super Bowl Party will be held. Door Feb 15, Friday – Social Security Adm #2, Medicare topic will be Feb 16, Saturday – the Dallas Black Deaf Advocacy (DBDA) will meet in The Deaf Celebration committee will have their public meeting at Feb 21, Thursday – Sprint Relay Store Wireless Workshop given by Ken Feb 22, Friday – the DAD Members\u0019 General Meeting will be held at Feb 23, Saturday – Scrapbook Retreat #2.
