POSITION TITLE: SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER<\/p>\n

Part-time position (Hours vary between 7:30am-10:00pm)<\/p>\n

CAMPUS\/DEPARTMENT: Central Campus – Disability Support Services<\/p>\n

SALARY: $25.00 per hour<\/p>\n

EDUCATION\/EXPERIENCE: Level I Interpreter Certification (TSID, RID, OR BEI) or meet ADA QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires proficiency in communication and interpretation qualifications<\/span> standard and the following is required:<\/p>\n

\u2022 One year full time wage earning sign language interpreting work experience or completion of an Interpreter Preparation Program Internship.<\/p>\n

The following is preferred:<\/p>\n

\u2022 One year full-time wage earning experience sign language interpreting in a post-secondary educational environment.<\/p>\n

*An unofficial copy of college transcripts is required with the application. The transcript must show the awarded degree and the date conferred (if completed).

Understanding of a person with deafness preferred form of communication. Show interest, enthusiasm, empathy, and a desire to help others. Must have good interpersonal skills and must be able to communicate effectively both written and orally<\/span>. Job location may vary from Main Campus, Fort Hood Campus, and other locations as needed in CTC service area<\/span>. *Successful background check<\/span> is required for all CTC employment.<\/p>\n

The interpreter, a staff position, interprets or transliterates between hearing faculty, staff, and students\u00a0using spoken or written English, and Deaf students and staff using American Sign Language or Signed English. The interpreter will assist with the following functions:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Interpret or transliterate spoken, written and signed information into<\/span><\/span> American Sign<\/p>\n

\u2022 Function as Interpreter in self-paced instructional area when designated.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Prepare for class through study of instructional materials and devote office time to<\/p>\n

Working Conditions:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Language and Signed English in any TSTC instructional situation, lab, recreational activity,\u00a0field trip, registration, tour and selected emergency and administrative setting.\u00a0increasing<\/span><\/span> sign vocabulary, improving American Sign Language interpreting techniques, and\u00a0learning specific technical signs.<\/p>\n

Minimal Hazard\/Exposure: Possibility of interpreting outside the conventional classroom\u00a0setting as interpreter<\/span><\/span> may be interpreting<\/span><\/span> outside. Occasional field trips for College or program\u00a0activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement.<\/p>\n

Minimum Requirements & Education:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Familiar with Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), and the Department of Assistive<\/p>\n

\u2022 Knowledge of psychosocial, linguistic and cultural aspects.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Understanding of the Interpreter’s role in an educational setting.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Associate of Arts or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field from an accredited college<\/p>\n

\u2022 Basic Level Certificate or Advanced Level Certificate or Master Level Certificate awarded<\/p>\n

\u2022 Generalist certificate or Specialist certificate awarded by the Registry of Interpreters for<\/p>\n

\u2022 Comparable out-of-state Quality Assurance State Screening Certificate.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The equivalent of one year participation in professional interpreter’s training as evidenced<\/p>\n

\u2022 Basic Level Certificate or Advanced Level Certificate or National Interpreter Certification<\/p>\n

Annual Salary- $24,900 or higher dependent<\/span><\/span> on skills and experience.<\/p>\n
