Interpreting Questions <\/p>\n

Have you ever had to interpret questions related to an investigation,
\nevidentiary hearing, a psychological evaluation or an assessment? If
\nyou have, I’m sure you will agree how difficult it can be sometimes.
\nThis hands-on workshop will train you how to critically think about
\nthe question being asked. Participants will learn how to extract the
\nintent of the question prior to providing the interpretation. Without
\nthis critical <\/p>\n
component the interpreter will inevitably end up leading the
\nconsumer. No matter what the setting, being able to interpret
\nquestions appropriately and accurately is essential. Come explore and
\nlearn techniques that you can apply to your work. <\/p>\n

There is more to teaming than what meets the eye. Have you ever left
\nan assignment wishing things had gone differently with your team? We
\nwill discuss a variety of elements related to the teaming process,
\nsuch as pre-conferencing, purpose, consumer participants, benefits,
\nsupport, and seating\/positioning. More importantly, we will focus on
\nhow to truly function as a team for the benefit of the clients we
\nserve. <\/p>\n

Meet the Presenters <\/p>\n
Monica Parks has been interpreting for 12 years and currently holds a
\nBEI Level III certification. She has experience in interpreting a
\nvariety of settings including educational, community, video relay,
\nreligious, <\/p>\n
theatrical, medical, and counseling. She serves as the Legislative
\nChair for Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf. <\/p>\n
Laurie was drawn to interpreting through the influence of her family
\nmembers who are deaf, realizing communication and access are pivotal.
\nShe considers herself a “potpourri”, working in a variety of
\ninterpreting settings such as community, post -secondary,
\neducational, medical, religious, and VRS. In <\/p>\n
doing so she has gleaned from a myriad of teaming experiences. In
\naddition, she believes in lifelong learning and striving for
\nexcellence. <\/p>\n
