Don\u2019t be disappointed! Get your ticket today to see Miss Deaf America (2010-2012), this Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 6pm, Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas<\/p>\n

Come meet Rachel Mazique, the National Association of the Deaf’s former Miss Deaf America Ambassador, 2010-2012 and see her talk about her personal journey that led her to her current position as a PhD candidate in English Literature, English instructor at the University of Texas at Austin, and Assistant Director of the Department of Rhetoric and Writing. She will talk about the opportunities that made this possible for her as well as the challenges she faced along the way as we, together, consider how we can raise the bar of opportunities for Deaf people and change what appears to be the status quo: underemployment, unemployment, and disbelief that Deaf people are equal to or perhaps even more skilled than hearing peers. Come and join our discussion on “Raising the Bar: Changing the Status Quo”!<\/p>\n

Tickets are $25 per person, and includes dinner & dessert. Also, a Silent Auction will be held for such\u00a0items as a weekend retreat at a Cypress Springs Lakehouse, photography portraits<\/span>, Barse jewelry, pottery, certificates at local restaurants, salons, craft stores and more. All proceeds to benefit the Deaf Ministry of Lovers Lane.<\/p>\n
