{"id":29419,"date":"2014-12-03T03:04:13","date_gmt":"2014-12-03T09:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/?p=29419"},"modified":"2014-12-03T03:04:13","modified_gmt":"2014-12-03T09:04:13","slug":"deaf-world-record-holder-matthew-klotz-verbally-commits-to-lsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deafnetwork.com\/wordpress\/blog\/2014\/12\/03\/deaf-world-record-holder-matthew-klotz-verbally-commits-to-lsu\/","title":{"rendered":"Deaf World Record Holder Matthew Klotz Verbally Commits to LSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DEAF WORLD RECORD HOLDER MATTHEW KLOTZ VERBALLY COMMITS TO LSU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>October 29, 2014<\/p>\n<p>Deaf Swimming World Record holder Matthew Klotz has verbally committed to the LSU Tigers, and will join the team in the fall of 2015 after taking a gap year during the 2014-2015 season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really excited to commit to such a great swimming program and can\u2019t wait to start my next 4 years here with the great coaching staff and teammates,\u201d Klotz said, punctuating it with a \u201c<span id=\"5add51a5-a9ad-460e-ac1d-2bec1a964355\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">geaux<\/span> Tigers!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Klotz\u2019s stock has risen significantly in the last year as he\u2019s rolled through the backstroke record books for both US Deaf Swimming and the World Record books as well. His best times:<\/p>\n<p>50 yard free \u2013 20.96<br \/>\n100 yard free \u2013 47.27<br \/>\n200 yard free \u2013 1:40.26*<br \/>\n500 yard free \u2013 4:44.97*<br \/>\n100 <span id=\"cd84f981-e645-49cb-a31a-f69f8dc664f3\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">yard<\/span> back \u2013 49.18*<br \/>\n200 <span id=\"e6a6e7b4-62d9-4df0-a38d-032c86a96f83\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">yard<\/span> back \u2013 1:46.48*<br \/>\n200 yard IM \u2013 1:53.52*<br \/>\n50 meter back \u2013 28.27*<br \/>\n100 meter back \u2013 57.88**<br \/>\n200 meter back \u2013 2:04.51**<br \/>\n200 meter IM \u2013 2:12.18*<\/p>\n<p>Note: * \u2013 American Deaf Record; ** \u2013 World Deaf Record<\/p>\n<p>Klotz\u2019s times should continue to improve with the recent announcement that Scott Shea from PASA as the new head coach of the Sierra Marlins Swim Team, and LSU hopes that Klotz\u2019s current American and World Records are just a starting point.<\/p>\n<p>The Tigers\u2019 primary concern will be how Klotz fits into their team, and the long-term outlook is positive.<\/p>\n<p>Based on 2013-2014 times, two of the Tigers\u2019 three best 100 <span id=\"5bc6ad7e-7936-4fdb-9637-ffde3d861848\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">backstrokers<\/span> from last season are graduating after this year, and Klotz would have been the fourth. LSU is much deeper in the 200 backstroke, but again Klotz will immediately be in a spot to challenge for swims there.<\/p>\n<p>Klotz\u2019s progressions show that he\u2019s on <span id=\"b26eda7d-3d31-4efe-bac4-83bf54ad2e47\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">trajectory<\/span> to be an even bigger contributor than that by the time he arrives in Baton Rouge. He\u2019s dropped two seconds in the 100 yard backstroke in each of the last two seasons and at least three in the 200 yard backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>Klotz was named the 2013 USA Deaf Sports Male Athlete of the Year and won a pair of gold medals in the 100 and 200 meter <span id=\"fedba371-97e3-4c3a-958f-71f8d75b3150\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">backstrokes<\/span> at the 2013 DeafLympics in Bulgaria.<\/p>\n<p>Without any scholastic competition this season, he says that his next focus meet will be Winter Juniors in December.<\/p>\n<p>SOURCE:<\/p>\n<p><a
