Deaf\/Hard of Hearing Youth Leadership and Transition Camp<\/p>\n
The Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DARS\/DHHS) is happy
\nto announce its 2008 Rising Stars Youth Leadership and Transition
\nCamp, June 15th \u0013 20th at Peaceable Kingdom Camp in Youngsport (near
\nTemple\/Killeen). Deaf and Hard of Hearing students will have the
\nopportunity to develop leadership skills and a positive attitude
\ntowards hearing loss, while striving to achieve their maximum
\npotential. <\/p>\n
The camp is FREE! Participants will be empowered and learn how they
\ncan participate in the transition process from high school to
\ncollege, work, how to interview for a job and when (and if) to
\ndisclose disability during the interview process. Participants will
\nalso learn about leadership, independence, diversity and
\nself-identity through outdoor activities that promote and encourage
\ndevelopment of confidence through ropes courses and other team
\nbuilding activities. <\/p>\n
Applicants must be a high school sophomore, Junior or Senior who are
\ndeaf\/hard of hearing and at least 16 years of age by June, 2008.
\nNominations are to be made by school and\/or vocational rehabilitation
\nprofessionals. Deadline is March 1, 2008. <\/p>\n

Traveling to\/from the camp-site is the only cost. Applicants who need
\nassistance with traveling expenses should immediately contact a VR
\nCounselor who works with deaf\/hard of hearing (or RCD\/RCHH
\n–rehabilitation counselor for the deaf\/rehabilitation counselor for
\nhard of hearing) at DARS\/DRS (Division for Rehabilitation Services)
\nfor an intake appointment. To find the nearest RCD\/RCHH send an email
\nto dhhstraining@dars.state.tx.us<\/p>\n
and give your hometown (if a large city like Houston, give the area
\nin which you live as well).<\/p>\n
